I'm going to shoot in a USPSA shotgun match late next month. I'm not a shotgun guy, nor am I serious about this competition (other than beating my shooting buddy :D). This is all just for fun.

We're limited to #7-1/2 or smaller shot. Our targets are mostly pole mounted steel plates and clays with a few poppers and mini poppers thrown in to the mix. I'd guess that 35-50 yards will be the max target range, but have no confirmation. The average target range appears to be much closer, similar (I guess) to a USPSA pistol match.

That said, I need some help selecting ammo and chokes. I know nothing about either, but I have some time to experiment and do some pattern work at the range.

What brand, type, and size shot ammo should I start with? I'm looking at the Winchester AA rounds, but there are 7 different varieties at Bass Pro, and 2-3 pellet choices per.

Any reasonable direction is better than depending on help from the guys at Bass Pro. Help!

Thanks,
Jay

Choke--as full as you can get it, especially if you're really shooting at 35 yards.

Go with the biggest shot they allow (I take it that you're primarily shooting steel)

Practice your reloads, try to get to an average of 1 second per.

Have fun!
