I have tried to search here for answers to figure out how to get the correct bullet for my twist rate, which is 1:12 in a savage 110 barrel. All i am finding is the recipes y'all use to get what you want. I am trying to figure out whats the heaviest i can stabilize, then work around that. Hunting will be the purpose of this gun and i want to make sure i am getting the most bang without wasting components on failed attempts at too heavy of a bullet. The deer in Tx aren't as big as your northern ones, and my kids will be using the gun. Thanks!

My 14 twist .22-250 will handle some 60 grain flatbase bullets, but not others. I figure your 12 twist will do better. I see that Nosler makes a 60 grain partition .22. The Nosler forum has reports of them working in some 12-14 twist guns and not others, so that might be a little more experimental than you want.

Long ago I read where Ken Waters killed a deer with a 55 grain Hornady in a .224 Weatherby which is pretty close to a .22-250.

I have a savage 110 22-250 1 to 12 twist I Can Stabilize a 60gr Boatail bullet Have used 45 gr flat base hollow piont and 50/52 gr bullets with good rusults. 55gr full metal jackets boatails do not do wellIMR 5895 semms best for my rifle

According to well known barrel maer Lilja, the 12 twist is ideal for 55 and 60 grain bullets. While Shilen barrel makers suggest the 12 is ideal for 63 grain bullets.

So! You should be able to shoot 55-63 grain bullets with great accuracy, and bullet weights in 50 and 70 grains should stabilize to give reasonable accuracy. However, your weapon will speak its own mind.

55grain Bergers would likely be a very accurate bullet. There's more variety in 55grain for good bullets. 55's will be fit very well in the range of appropriate bullets for 1 in 12 twist.

My Savage 12, 1 in 12 twist, 26in barrel has done well with Sierra 65gr Gamekings. I haven't tried them on deer, but they seem to stabilize well enough to get less than MOA in my rifle. Grafs had (out of stock for now, of course) them for 17.99 per 100. YMMV.

The bullet I use in my 222, 223 & 22-250 (all with 1:12 twist barrels) is the Speer 70 gr. Semi-Spitzer. It stabilizes well and also kills deer (including a DRT shot at 360 yards with the 22-250).

Woo! Thanks for all the replies :). Seems i needn't worry too much and just try it out and see what she likes in heavies. thanks guys! i was hoping i wouldnt be wasting my money :)
