.22 Bolt or autoloading

That could be. I bought a 10/22 as my first rifle and it shot about 3" groups at 50 yards. I suppose that's tolerable accuracy, but I had been hoping for a bit more.

I have no desire to own any 22 rifle that won't at least shoot 1" groups at 50 yds. If they can't do at least that, I get rid of them. However my Ruger will shoot 1" at 50 yds.

I'm not much for customizing my rifles. That's why I don't favor the Ruger 10/22 and I absolutely hate to load their rotary magazine. Accuracy is so so. Mine mostly sits around unfired until visitors arrive and we warm it up. I shoot my TC and Weatherby more in semi autos.

Blasting away (fast) with a semi-auto 22's is just so much fun. You can't do that with a bolt. You learn to work with the triggers on the semi's. You can learn to shoot a semi very well and you don't have to blast away with them all the time. Frankly I prefer the Weatherby Mark XXII, but that is a different beastie in semi's. Different price range too.

Bolt first. Autos don't feed CB shorts and that ability can be VERY handy. I like 'em for squirrel hunting, but the range is limited to about 25 to 30 yards with 'em.

My 10/22 is fun and I plink more with it than any of my other .22s. It'll shoot 1.5" at 50 with Fed Lightening and the irons. Might close that a little with a scope, but I didn't buy the thing to put a scope on it. It's plenty accurate enough for what I use it for. I have an old Remington bolt gun that will shoot 1.5 MOA with cheap ammo, sub-1 MOA with RWS Target ammo at 100 yards on a dead calm day. I don't need any more accuracy than that. It'll produce 1 hole 10 shot groups at 50 yards with RWS. I shot a 5 shot 1/2" 100 yard group the other day with my Remmy 597 magnum, but that's cheating in a .22LR thread. :D

CZ. Form and function rolled into one reasonably priced rifle.

10/22's can be very accurate, but not usually out of the box.

X2. I never shot my 10/22 stock as I bought it with the intention of fully modifying it. Bull barrel, new stock, all new trigger/sear parts from Power Custom and a few other nice mods. The only thin left stock was the receiver and bolt. Then added a decent scope to it. Spent more on the mods than the gun, but it was fun and now I get nickel size groups at 50 yards.
