.22 caliber ammo choices

You can shoot any .22 long rifle ammo in either. The best thing I have found is to shoot as many types as possible and see which they like best.
You can even shoot .22 longs and possibly shorts but they may not operate the actions so that you would have to operate it by hand.

Having shot many different .22lr loadings I recommend that you stay away from remington's famous golden bullet unless you don't mind missfires and zero quality control. Honestelly, this is the ammo I bought as a kid, because that's all I could get. For many years I thought it was "normal" to have missfires - until I switched to cci stingers. The beauty of the .22 is ammo is cheap and there are all kinds of ammo out there. I've had very good results with federal champion 40gr and 38 gr. Maybe 1 missfire out of at least 1,000 rounds. Did anyone at remington hear me?

If I recall correctly, Ruger advises against using Stinger ammunition in the 10/22. I do not know about your Buckmark, but I do know that my Ruger 22/45 does not like hollowpoint ammunition (nor PMC Scoremaster standard velocity - it's a picky eater). DWARREN is correct - try many brands and see what they like the bast. I personally am a fan of CCI Blazers and the Federal Standard Velocity Target ammunition that seems to be available only at Dick's Sporting Goods stores.

Good luck!

Federal bulk back 525 (or is it 550?) round bricks or federal 'match' in the beige box 325round packs both perform excellently in my buckmark (and rem 597). My Buckmark doesn't like remington's golden bullets much and they leave little flecks of gold everywhere :cuss:

If you're in to buying in large quantities, check out the CMP's online e-store. They generally have some .22 ammo for sale at pretty good prices and their shipping is cheap. And if you don't want to buy a case (5,000 rounds)on your own, you might be able to share with a range buddy.
I would recommend shooting std velocity stuff out of your Buckmark, but I shoot mostly Bullseye and that's all I buy, except for the plated stuff for my Colt .22 conversion for the .45. And the std velocity seems to work fine in my 10/22.

I've been very impressed with the Federal Auto-Match in the 325 round bulk pack.
