I saw a couple of nice Kimber bolt action .22 rifles while on a trip over Christmas. One was a $1550 stunner with a figured walnut stock. The other was its beer-budget brother, a $900 version without the great wood. The cheaper one had a target on a hangtag on the trigger guard. Five shots into around a quarter of an inch shot from 50 yards. I wondered if the expensive one wasn't expected to be fired since it didn't have a target on it.

Both had good balance and were large enough to have that "real rifle feel."

Anyone got one of these?

I've got the beer budget brother. Bought mine several years ago when they were in the $400 range. It's a bit of a finicky eater when it comes to ammo. However, with match grade ammo it does in fact put'em all in the same hole. For $900, there are better deals out there IMHO.

Trouble sending this reply. If it repeats please forgive.

I have the beer budget brother Kimber (first generation.) It is finicky about ammo but will put'em all in one hole with target ammo. Also shoots pretty well with Federal hollowpoints. It is a fine rifle and a keeper but there are better buys for $900 IMHO.

A side note: A buddy of mine had a Kimber Super American (fancy and expensive) in .223 that shot as well (but just) as my Ruger 77 Varmint model. He sold it for an obscene amount of money and bought several fine rifles.

They are really good but expensive.

? - The more expensive version should have a test target as well.
From everything that I have heard , read or seen on Kimber rimfire rifles - all are fired for accuracy and a test target supplied with each rifle with .4" accuracy or better for 5 shots at 50 yards.

I have a Kimber "Hunter" model. This one comes with the black matte finished metal and the satin walnut stock. My personal Kimber came with a target with 5 shots into .333" @ 50 yards. Overall, this is the most used gun in my battery. I would highly recommend one.

I bought mine in 1987 I think it was . $670 was a lot of money but being left-handed I had few options except a $1300 German rifle or maybe luck across a used lefty .
After seeing the rifle make five shot groups that could be covered with a thirty caliber bullet I did not think I overspent at all . In 1987 Kimber had several grades and mine was a step up from the budget rifle and came with the forend cap . The super America could be had for about 12 or 13 hundred bucks . A couple years back I saw a used deluxe in .22 mag that had been used , a lot , for $650 , kinda wish I'd had the money for it . It was a lefty also .:(

I think the staff at the store I saw the Kimbers at may have left the fancy rifles' target in the box.

Both were neat rifles. I have an old Winchester 52, but the Kimbers could have a modern scope put on them so easily...
