22 Long Rifle vs 375 H&H Magnum

I'd truly suggest the .22 long rifle. #1, the ammo will be so much cheaper. #2, with the .22, your shoulder will last soooooo much longer. #3, if you hit one with that 375, probably all you'll see is a huge cloud of hair! I realize you're wanting to shoot/hunt J-rabbits, but c'mon, give yourself a break too. YMMV :what:

That's funny right there.

If I were to ask my Dad, he would probably say 375 H&H for some reason. It was his elk to varmint gun. Good with it too, even with the old metal butt plate.

Me? I'd pick neither for this application.

From the general information I gather from the interwebz. The .375 H&H is bare minimum and really underpowered as a SD gun. The .22lr however is capable of sniping elk from 6 miles from the hip and the clear choice of pros for dangerous african game. Yet it is rendered ineffective against 100# tweakers.

So given the nature of jack rabbits i would have to recommend a .458 Lott or .416 Rigby.

I alway's look for any excuse to shoot a .375H&H Mag. but I will have to go with the .22lr. on this one. Less punishment on the poor critter, although i'm not sure he would know what hit him or how many different direction's his body parts are going.

well for shots over 1000+ yards, I'd use the 22lr.. anything under that I'd use the larger.. flatter trajectory and all

The 375 with round ball loads would be great for jacks. Looking for a .380" round ball mold for mine. They make good grouse loads also.

If you cast your own, the cost difference isn't that much between the 375 and the 22. Primer, about 3-6 grs of pistol powder,...

Seriously, I'd use the 22lr,out to 100yds(scoped),and maybe even a .22wrfm. I've spent some time in AZ,hunting jacks,and they can be a bit hard to kill,at times!Either way,have fun!
