What is the best .22 longrifle pistol that is under $400? I want one for target practice, not a ccw.

A few more bucks and you can get a S&W revolver. For a few hundred less, a S&W 422 semi auto is pretty good but you'll have to find one on the used market. The Ruger Govt. model is not too bad for a SA but it is a PIA to field strip and clean. Gave mine to my Son. Fair exchange for the diapers and stuff years ago.

Thats a tough call. Depends a lot on what you want to use it for. Ruger, Browning, both are very accurate and come ready to put optics on. Walthers are good to carry[small light] I dont have any expierence with the Berretta neo I dont like the way they look or feel.Personal op. I have a Smith 622 and love carry it more than anything. There getting hard to find though.

The Ruger Mk II is easy to field strip, once you get the hang of it. I have only had Mark II's since this summer and have taken each down about 3 times. So, I timed myself not long ago on taking one apart, this is from pulling the trigger, main spring out, bolt out and barrel off the receiver and everything back again. This was my first timed event ever and I was not pushing it. Time was 1:05. That is one minute and 5 seconds, so learn one simple trick and easy from there.

Ruger Mk II's are great for the price.

Ruger mark 3 or browning buckmarks are both great pistols and accurate for the money.A ruger single 6 can be had for bout 400 with the added bonus of a 22 mag cylinder.for even less money u can get a beretta neos or smith 22a.
all are accurate enough and will probably last a lifetime.the rugers and buckmark are heirlooms that can last generations.the most accurate? exceptionaly accurate individual pieces in all makes are possible,as well as some turds from time 2 time.i love my mark 2 for its accuracey, my single 6 for its durabilty and ability to digest anything,my smith( a discontinued 422) for its carryability, and the neos because its cheap and looks futuristic.i dont have a browning yet!but everyone i know that has one wouldnt part with it.
if you search used stuff, any smith revolver in 22 will probably be a keeper.unfortunately the newer 10 shot smith revolvers are expensive, but excellent weapons if u can afford it.some rimfires i dont care for are sig mosquitos, heritage revolvers, and that damb ugly walther target style.i wont go into detail as 2 why,its mostly personal reasons,im sure others like these handguns.the old"its me,not you" routine.sorry to rant,it just happens 2 be a favorite subject of mine.if im forced to pick just 1,my ruger mark 2,its very accurate, very durable, and emptying 10 rounds as fast as u can rocks!
