I am looking to purchase a .22 Mag revolver, anyone have an opinon of the Charter Arms "Pathfinder" I can pick one up reasonable but am I wasting money? I have never held one, talking with friends I get mixed reaction, what do you guys say? Thanks msn

I have an old Pathfinder in .22 LR. It was inoperable for a while and then the dealer who had it met the current head of Charter at a trade show. The guy told him to send it back to the factory and they'd fix it. I bought it after the fix.

It is now accurate, reliable, and a fun gun to shoot.

They are nice little revolvers, I like the 4" barrel and target sights. Looks like an ideal trail or kit gun.

Hal Swiggett used one for small game for years, equipped with a Hutson scope, if I remember right.

I own several .22 MAG revolvers. They all are the type that have the interchangeable cylinders for .22 LR/MAG. Two are Ruger Blackhawks, two are Harrington & Richardson, two are Heritage Rough Riders, and one is an H Schmidt--a German import. The ones with barrels longer than 4 inches are accurate and relatively quiet. The short 2 inch barreled H&R is not so accurate and the muzzle flash/sound is unreal. I would not fire it without hearing protection on a bet. I have had no experience with the Pathfinder but I would think that the same problems noted would be likely in all short barreled .22 MAG revolvers. Someone that has one will most likely chime in soon with the low down for you. Mine cost between $125.00 and $300.00 each used FWIW.
