Now proud to say the Mighty MO!
Howdy,

When I'm afield I generally don't carry a long arm but I like to have my .44 mag Vaquero and .22 Mag Single six on my belt. I carry a few extra cartridges for the .44 in a cartridge belt and stick a few .22 mags in my pocket.

I'm curious if anybody has any clever solutions to carry spare .22 mag rounds. I'd like something a little more "positive" than fishing around in my pocket. I've seen little things that clipped to your belt and could "shuck" out extra rounds like a car-hop's change magazine. Anybody seen these for .22 magnum?

While I'm at it, anybody have any good ammo recommendations in the .22 Mag? Right now I use Maxi Mag +V which clocks 1550fps out of my 5.5" single six, I figure that's pretty good medicine out of that little revolver. There's a "TNT" version of the same stuff, anybody tried that? I'm not sure what's supposed to be different about it.

Yoinks, I didn't even think of that (I did think of using a Desert Eagle mag for the .44) I guess I had a "pistol" mindset and didn't remember the AMT.

It's been awhile since I messed with a 10/22, how easy is it to thumb rounds out of one of those rotory magazines for the magnum?

I just picked up 2 boxes of CCI's Maxi-Mag, with the Gold Dot bullet. Don't yet know how it compares to CCI's other .22Mag loads, but it sure looks wierd to see that famous Gold Dot Flying Ashtray nose on a .22

The little leather police ammo carriers where you open the flap and rounds dump out the bottom? 38 Special size would probably work...

Very Unscientific test

These Maxi-Mag +V's I have will pass through the widest part of two gallon milk jugs and into a third. Full of water. That's out of my 5.5" vaquero. The first jug was split open, the second and third just had dime size holes in and out. The recovered slug was smashed prefectly flat, didn't weight it.

Uncle Mike's makes a belt pouch for .22 rimfire bullets. Field Line makes one almost exactly like it, and some other companies make similar copies. They fit on your belt, are made of cordura nylon, and are held closed by velcro. They are pretty much stuffed at about 50 rounds of .22lr. I use them for everything from .30/30 to .44MAG to .22 rimfire.

I like the Field Line or Uncle Mike's much better than other brands.

Question - Why do "hunting" clothes and accessories use snaps and velcro so much when buttons are sooooo much more quiet???

Buy a box of CCI 22Mag shotshells. These hold 20 rounds I think, in a flat plastic case with a sliding top. Take the shotshells out and stash 'em elsewhere, and the box is a perfect pocket ammo carrier.

Marlin 25MN Mag

6 rounds, dirt cheap. Flip out with a push of your thumb. I've found them used at shows for $5.
