Does anyone out there reload the ancient and obscure .22 Savage High Power, known also as the 5.6x52R?

A buddy of mine collects old (mostly pre WWI) guns, and picked one of these up at a show. Scandalized by the cost of factory ammo, he's asked if I'd be interested in loading him up some for occasional plinking. Is this feasible? A good idea at all?

I see that Hornady still makes bullets and dies.

I do

S&B makes ammo too.

I have a case form set to make cases from .30-30, a Lyman mold, and lots of other stuff that came from an estate sale.

With top loads in Savage 99 rifles they are very hard on brass.

Mine came with an ancient Weaver mounted on the receiver. As the rifle is a take-down and is not real tight, I get better groups using Iron sights.
