This is more or less an expansion one the ".22 cal pellet options" thread from a couple weeks ago. That thread drifted a bit more towards long range shooting, so maybe this thread can build on that and have folks post up results with their rifle/pellet/slug combos.

I initially said that my Avenger would not shoot slugs at all, which was true up until a week ago. At that time my shooting buddy and I tested NSA 17.5 grain .216 and .2175 slugs. We had previously tested many, many other slugs with no luck at all.

The Avenger worked very well with the .2175 slugs, using 2000 psi and three turns on the hammer spring. Targets are not paper, chasing groups at distance, for me, does not pay off. For the times that I did shoot paper, I would say that the best groups at 100 yards were around 2", but more commonly 3-5 inches. I think that's good enough for a cheap-ish air rifle but definitely not going to set any records.

We do not really think that our rifles are precision instruments and our basis of precision is "minute of cowbell".

What we tend to shoot are 1/5 scale silhouettes, golf balls, a cow bell and 6" plates at 50 and 100 yards. The hit rate on all targets is near 100% except for the golf balls which is somewhat lower.

At 150 meters the targets are the cowbell and 6" plates and golf balls if we're feeling frisky. The hit rate there is around 75% and of course wind is a huge factor. On the day of the last test we had very calm wind.

At 200 meters it's 6" plates. The hit rate there is in the neighborhood of 10-25%.

At my pressure setting and with a 50 yard zero, my 100 yard correction is 15 MOA, at 150 meters it's 37 MOA, at 200 meters it's 38 MOA (max on my turret) and an estimated hold over of 50 inches, which is a clump of grass on a berm at 385 meters. My reticle is a duplex, so no hash marks.

I'd love to hear what others are coming up with when shooting longer distances. That certainly includes results from high end rifles and I am particularly interested in FX and Daystate rifle results.
