I note that the .22 TCM folks have a bolt action rifle that takes their pistola's magazines. It got me wondering if anyone around here has tried one.

Well? Have you and what are your experiences?

Also got me to wondering if any one had worked up any loads for the gun/ammo combo that got down into the .22LR power and velocity range or even a subsonic.

I am betting that with that shorter case that lead loads with pistol/shotgun powders might be more accurate than with such loads in .223.

Not that I think re run of the .22 rim fire drought is possible but I am curious about such a use of the TCM cartridge.

From all I've read on the subject the pistol magazine IS the problem with the 22 tcm rifle. The limited mag length leaves you with only one bullet choice for full power loads, and a relatively long throat for those bullets leaves accuracy less than desirable. Handloads single fed supposedly did great in it. This is why I havent pursued it yet myself, although I love the idea of a micromagnum centerfire... Take this with a gran of salt though, since I haven't been able to get hands on with one of these rifles...

I haven't fired a firearm in that chambering, but have used the component bullets to load .218Bee and .22Hornet.
The bullets (40gr RN-JHP) are now my favorite bullet for those two cartridges.
Got mine from Grafs, but they haven't restocked.
They are available from Armscor retail online store ammosupplywharehouse.com
They're about $6.00/100 if bought in 1,000 quantities. Shipping is a bit steep at about $16.00.
Not as accurate as Sierra 40-45gr Jsp's; 0.7moa vs 1.25moa for Armscor, but 1/3 the price and adequate. Got these three opening day 2016 with the .218Bee Marlin M1894CL. Closest shot was 17yds, longest 37yds.
Shot placement, shot placement, shot placement.
IRRC, Rifle magazine and Handloader did a couple of articles on the .22 TCM. They gave the rifle faint praise. Mediocre accuracy and mediocre quality rifle.
I'd like to have the handgun, however.
They also offer a 39gr hp that improves feeding from handgun. Very low b.c. however.
