Has anyone here ever seen .22 tracer ammunition? I had not even heard of it until now.

Just recently I obtained this box. It is regular .22 Long Rifle. The dark tip in the pic is dark red. From what I can find, it is made in France and is, I think, illegal to fire in the U.S.

Anyone have any information about this vintage ammo?

What would you set as starting price on GunBroker.

Never actually seen any(other than for sale online), but I have seen new production .22 tracer on sale various reputable places.

Don't know about Alabama but definitely illegal in California.
However I do believe tracers are legal in some states.
(must be if Cablea's is selling them)
Please be careful about possibly starting a fire if you shoot it.
(lots of stories about tracers starting fires)

Probably worth saving for it's collector value since it appears to be old. (and French?)
You might want to buy new ones if you want some to shoot.

and other places as well.

It isn't illegal, just be careful not to start fires.

I bought several boxes of piney mountain tracers in green and red years ago and have shot hundreds of them. Im not familiar with the ones you have but I can't see only one box being worth the hassle of posting online and shipping.

Do tracers have to ship as Hazmat? (doesn't matter to me I am in CA where they are illegal) but the OP might need to know if they are hazmat.

I believe it's orm-d but could be wrong.

And, I shouldn't have made the blanket statement that it isn't illegal. I see that the OP is from AL which is where I am. Everyone should check their state laws.

When .22 was a little bit more available I purchased a couple boxes from Natchez Shooters. They are legal to shoot in Maine. I usually shoot tracers when there is snow on the ground just to be extra safe.

Ronnie: In 1969 if was going thru Army Helicopter FLight School at Fort Wolters in Mineral Wells Tx. And the PX had these for sale, I had never seen any 22 LR Tracers befor. And I bought 4 or 5 bricks of them, I should have bought all they had. The Ammo shot well, and I had a great time over the years Shooting, Plinking, and Hunting at night with it. I just checked my 22LR ammo supply and all I could find that I have left is 2 unopened boxes. I haven't shot any of it in many years. But the way I remember it, the ammo won't light up very well fired out of short barreled Handguns. But it worked really well out of my old Marlin 39A and 9 1/2 inch Colt Frontier Scout it lite up all most every shot. Like I said I should have bought all those 22LR Tracers the PX at Fort Wolters Tx had. And I believe I payed $ 2.00 a box for it and it was cheaper by the brick,But don`t quote me on that.
