Is there any reason you couldn't buy a 223 and have it converted to a 223 Ackley? You fireform factory loads or your own fireform loads and have cheap brass and it gives you a performance boost over a standard 223. Also, if you are set on the 222RM you could probably buy a 223 and have it rechambered, it shares the same bolt face and your options are a lot greater than looking for a 222 to have the rechamber on.

Just a sugestion seeing as you wrote" In New Mexico one can almost on any given day have a 5-15 mph breeze.." The ansure to your wind drift issues might be best handled by moving up to a 6mm like the 234Win.

OK...Rancho that's exactly what I'm looking for...I will get my FFL/Gunsmith involved in the morning..It's conforting to know that the .223 can be rechambered...I've been watching all weekend on a few sites and the .222 or .222RM is slim...It looks like to me that in a few years only a few handload guys will have one...Anyway...How much does a .223 ackley improve the .223?..Does it improve over a .222RM?...How about can a .222 be improved to a .222RM Ackley?...And about the 6MM/.243 plan..that is not exactly a pelt friendly caliber...HOWEVER...I have a buddy in Wyoming that has a model 700..243..And he shoots over extremely open country and has really good luck with pelts...I think he shoots 55 grain sierra blitz kings..[It's a Screamer}..My country down here just isn't that open for the most part..I'm looking forward to a new rifle...How about the Kimber Longmaster rechambered from a .223 into a .222RM...That would be something..ehh?
