I bought some Hornady 60gr soft points to reload. I have CFE223 and some H335. I've loaded both powders using 55gr fmj and vmax, have an idea for starting for the 60 gr soft points, wondered if anyone has loaded the soft points using either of those powders. The gun is a TWS, 16" barrel, 1 in 9 twist.

Hornady 60 grain SP Hornady #2270 Loaded to a C.O.L. of 2.200"

H335 Powder
Start 20.1 gr ~2700 FPS MAX LOAD 22.9 gr ~3,000 FPS

CFE 223 Powder
Start 24.5 gr ~2700 FPS MAX LOAD 27.4 gr ~3,200 FPS

I wouldn't expect those velocities, the test rifle was a Remington 700 26" barrel 1:12 twist. The data is from the Hornady 9th Edition Handbook of Cartridge Reloading.

While I haven't used CFE I have loaded plenty of 223 using H335 and like the H335 very much for 223 loadings.

The above are merely suggested loadings. As always start low and work up if you decide to try those loads.

Thanks, those #s are right in line with what I was considering and looking through info. The Hornady book is one I need to get, seems I'm ending up loading a lot of their stuff. I decided to buy them when I found some, money is tight right now, but reading the news I figure I might need some good SD ammo for when the SHTF. I've been reading the new Brad Thor book, Act of War. WAY too close to what's happening for real.

I strongly suggest the newest Hornady manual. Lots of good info, and it does seem like I too, end up with lots of Hornady bullets, for pistol and rifle. Its always nice when the data shows exactly what your using.
