Extremely compact, lightweight, negligible recoil, and 1/2" groups at 100 yards (well, it only did that once but it does shoot very well) I think it's a great sniper/survival rifle.

Own one Savage 12 boltie and two Ar's in .223. Great round in my opinion. Probably the 2nd cheapest to shoot after .22 rimfire. Get one or three!

Twist rate will affect which pills your rifle will shoot. Do your research.

varmints for sure

Just returned from SD shooting prairie dogs with my Savage model 12 Varmint in .223. Nothing inside 500 yards was safe! 50 grain VMax over 26 Benchmark on the lands is awesome!

Yep tiny groups 55 gr V-Max over 26gr of Varget out of mine Remington 700 SPS Varmint
the one on the right measures 0.25"

My sps 223 shoots great too. Been throwing the 69 smks very well with just under 24 g of varget.

It's a handy rifle, very accurate, cheap to shoot especialy if you roll your own rounds, fun longer range on targets, great for introducing new shooters, great ammunition availability, works on deer when close enough for CNS shots (not a "good" choice by any means though), and fantastic on smaller critters. Would work on two legged predators in a pinch as well. It makes a great practice rifle as well for larger more expensive calibers.

Honestly, I shoot it way more than my ar15... I don't think you would be unhappy with one.

Great inexpensive target and varmint rifles. Many are extremely accurate. I like the one-shot discipline of a bolt action over a semi-auto for teaching new shooters. And they're fun ...

I really love shooting mine. Accurate, cheap to feed. I've only had it for a few months now...hoping to use it on some coyotes, javelina, and anything else that fits the bill.

Savage Model 14 Classic with a Leupold VXII 3-9x40.
