I picked up a used Rem, 700 SPS .223 with Nikon Prostaff 5, 3.5 x14x 40 scope, at a pawnshop. Looked as new for 600.00. I been working up loads, and so far it's a 5/8 ths to 3/4 in. 5 shot group rifle. I hope to improve that as I try more load combinations. hdbiker

Well I had to go over to Independence this morning so on the way back stopped in KCK at Cabela's. Found a Savage Model 11 Predator with the heavy barrel, a Nikon scope and camo stock. It was marked down as a Clearance and also qualified for the rebate so, after a double check with the head of the budget, I brought it home. It's a 1-9 twist barrel so I'll be checking out the 55 grain bullets first and see how that goes.
And BTW, the folks at the firearms department at the KCK Cabela's are helpful, friendly and knowledgeable. I actually enjoyed spend money there today.

Really not a bad rifle in the groups mentioned. My personal experience has been with a Rem. 700 SPS Tac that shoots 1/2" groups at 200 yds. I bought mine four years ago with the Tupperware stock, replaced it with a B&C tactical stock (no glass bedding or anything), topped it with a Vortex scope and I'm super happy. With a 1:9 twist barrel, it likes 68 and 75 gr. Hornady BTHP bullets. Even with Remington's issues as of late (as reported on web forums!), I've had good experience with this Rem. 700 and a new Marlin 1895 purchased two years ago.

Personally If i buy another .223/556 bolt gun it will be either a Howa mini, or a Cz 527.
I have a rem700 that was originally a .223, which i rebarrled to 6x47Rem. The cartridges look lost in even the short action receivers. My buddies Axis seems huge in .223.

That said if you dont mind then there are a bunch of good rifles in .223. Personally i really like the ruger americans.

When I ordered this Rem Custom Shop 40-X in .223 their standard twist was 1/12" but I specified I wanted a 1/14" for best accuracy in 55grain and lighter bullets. It has exceeded my expectations, as hundreds of prairie dogs can testify. DSC_0005.JPG DSC_0007.JPG

That's a really nice looking rig. What scope did you mount?
That's a Burris Fullfield II 4.5-14x42. I have four of those scopes because I've found them to be very, very good for the money. They just suit my eye better than anything I've tried up to about $500 (street price) or so.
That, my friend, is a peach. BEUT!
Thanks. It's an unusual CZ that was made back in 2010. It has fancy wood with some type of unusual-for-CZ oil-like finish (different from any other CZ I've ever seen, and I have a bunch of 'em), mahogany tip and grip cap. It was one of 120 units built between 2010 and 2013 and shipped to Sports South (a big distributor). I think the metal is also a little more highly polished (it's slightly better than my 3 other 527s). CZ says they considered it a factory-built custom, not a regular production gun because it was never in their catalog.

There was another one that came up on GB a few months ago and I opted not to bid on it. I notified a guy on another forum (who had send me a PM asking if I'd sell mine) about it and he bought it at a great price.

Does it have the single set trigger?
Yes.

... I would have a CZ but I don't like set triggers altho most who shoot them seem to like them....
I’ve changed my opinion on the CZ Single Set Trigger (SST). I had previously decided I didn’t like the set feature so I adjusted the set feature out (on all of my 527s and 550s), and adjusted the resulting standard single stage trigger as nice as I could get it with a light pull and no over-travel. Keep in mind that you have this option if you want a CZ but don't want the set trigger to be part of your shooting experience.

However, several months ago I had a week-long outing where I shot my 527 Varmint a good bit. Before going on that trip I reconfigured the trigger settings to make the set feature functional, and spent some time to adjust the trigger precisely the way I wanted it. After spending this time and getting the trigger just perfect for my preferences, I REALLY like it. I don’t know how light I have it set but it’s very light, and more importantly, I can make the gun fire exactly when I want it to -- it's like I can just THINK I want it to fire, and it fires. And after putting a bunch of rounds down-range, it doesn't really feel awkward to me like it originally did. I guess a bunch of one-hole groups tend to make me see things differently. :) I've since adjusted my other 5 CZ SSTs in the same way.

Thats a pretty cut of wood.

I have a few CZ's. 3 527's and none of the 527's with such a pretty example as your stock.
Thanks. See the explanation above on the special wood.

That is really good lookin combo.
Thanks. Here's a shot of the other side.

Remington Model 700 Tactical 223 with 20 inch BULL barrel Hogue stock , they are so good I also got the .308 of same
model which is -wow-.
I reload both mine , the 223 does 1/2 Inch group at 100 yards & it can hit 3 inch metal plate every shot at 280 yards, I
should try for a group at that range. = 55 gr HP Sierra #1390
You must get good optics for any precision rifle, get parallax adjustment for close & long range.

I'm thinking about a new Axis compact in 223.Especially with the 100.00 rebate.
Had that gun with the standard trigger. It was a good shooter with a nice clean trigger break, fairly smooth bolt.
But the magazine was the deal breaker.
Loading those little pointed bastards into that thing was downright painful, though it did hold 5 easily rather than the advertised 4.
The catch looks very flimsy, spare mags are outrageously $$$, and the ejection port is too small to easily use it for single loading. Sold it and got the Howa- glad I did.
