.223 bolt guns + AR magazines?

Ladies and Gents,

I know the Mossberg MVP has gone down this road. Are there any other manufacturers that have done the same?

If there are I'm not aware of any, and frankly i kind of doubt it.

Mossberg seems to be the only one so far to take on the mechanical/technical challenge of using AR mags in a rifle without an AR bolt face.
On an AR the two bottom locking lugs ride through the middle of the feed lips and alternately strip the rounds out of the mag, the bolt on the MVP has a hinged "Jaw" on the bottom edge that performs this function and allows the MVP to use regular AR mags.
the geometry or whatever you want to call it of the AR magazine system kind of dictates that barring use of the AR style bolt face some kind of "stipping finger" be used, and not all that many makers are going to go to the trouble. Most in fact will tend to stick with standard bolt action magazine design, because their traditional designs are more robust and the Jaw or finger equipped bolt that the AR mag forces would be noticably more brone to breakage.

well that's my observation and take on it. I kind of wish there were a few more like the MVP out there, but time will tell

This is a pump action rifle that takes AR magazines. Not a bolt action like you mentioned in the OP, but still a manually operated centerfire rifle.

That's the only other one I can think of. Kind of a nice option for those folks stuck in draconian AWB states or localities. Can be almost as fast as semi-auto, and manually operated actions are typically not subject to detachable magazine capacity restrictions.

Seems to me that i heard of conversions to 223 700 variants, and something about a marlin?

I think Howa has a replacement magazine well that allows the use of detatchable magazines with their rifles. I know they have one for .308.

they do, but it uses proprietary (the the DBM system maker) mags instead of the AR type.

Don't buy the 7615.

The bolt carrier is made of cheap pot metal. Mine snapped making my rifle a $700 club. Remington was awesome and fixed it, but I sold the gun ASAP.

Thats weird. I wanted one for years, but was not willing to pay the high prices people were asking for them. Did a lot of research on them. Never heard of that problem. A couple years ago, I picked up a used one in LNIB condition for under $500. Its had several hundred rounds through it without a hitch.

I've been trying to remember where and when I saw something similar. It was before the AWB, and a closed head injury. Here's what I think I remember. In SWAT (or similar) magazine (made the cover) there was an article describing 2 rifles coming out using detachable box magazines from AR15, and M1A. They had Mauser style actions. The name Blazer (not Blaser) keeps coming to mind. I believe it had something to do with England. I've tried to remember more and searched it but my Google Fu is worse than my memory. Perhaps this will jog someone elses memory.

Not a bolt, but you can get a side charging upper with an adjustable gas block. Turn off the gas block and you can get that one shot at a time similar to a bolt. This is what i am thinking of doing for my next AR build.
