I bought some W748 and BL-C(2) to load 223 and noticed my manual calls for magnum primers with those two powders. I screwed up and bought normal Win small rifle primers. I was going to load 5 of each with those primers to see if they work but wanted to see if anybody else has tried these combo's before and did they work? Should I not try it and just buy some mag primers? Thanks for any help.

Both powders are ball type and have a tendency to compact in the case. The magnum primer has a bit more kick to ignite the compacted powder. I would load some samples with the regular primers and load some with the mag primers and see if you notice any difference.
Standard primers will work but you will get better iginition with the magnums.

My speer manual calls for magnum primers with BL-C(2) also, but if you'll look on the container, it says SR primers. I loaded up a batch of 223 ammo with small rifle primers (CCI 400) and shot them - they worked great! My loads were slightly more accurate than factory ammo which suprised me since I hadn't done any fine tuning as yet with the BL-C(2). Use the small rifle primers, shoot away and you'll never look back.

My w748 load prefered the CCI Small Rifle Magnum primers an I dont argue with a dime sized 5 shot group. The first one I ever got with any caliber/load

I use BL-C(2) and WSR primers in my 223 loads and have had no problems.

I load mostly Sierra 52 gr. BTHP, as I was given 30 lbs, and also with their 65 gr. Gameking and 69 gr. OTM. All shoot well under an inch from my 223's.

Please share your load.

It is 27.4gr W748, 52gr Speer FMJBTHP Match bullets, CCI 450 Small Rifle Magnum Primers, FC cases, OAL 2.200. Sorry for the late response.

I shoot 28 grs of W748 with a 40gr Nosler BT bullet and with CCI mag primers. This will shoot dime size groups at 150 yards. Steve48
