I'll be working up a load for my AR. Beginning with the starting load and working up in .3 grain intervals.

My question has to do with "warming up" the barrel with some commercial loads prior to documenting my handload results.

Whats a good guideline for the number of shots I should fire before I start ?

Thanks

I would not because the powder used will be different than what your using. I want the barrel fouled with the powder I'm using. Just load a couple extra to warm up the barrel. I always make note on where the 1st shot goes on a cold barrel. If you loading up 5 or more it should not be an issue unless were talking about extreme cold temp.

Five shots will certainly warm it up but how many shots do you normally take between cleanings?
