223 primers

Nothing.
If your gun will set them off.

If you are loading a MAX load already, back off 10% and work back up to Max while watching for pressure signs.

Same thing as when I use small rifle primers in my 38 and 40S&W, they go bang and send the bullet down range.

SRP's work exactly the same as SPP's unless you have a weak hammer spring or are at the absolute max on the loads (in which case you should work up from 10% below, but I doubt you'll see any measurable difference).

.223 primers may be a tiny bit harder, but are of the same dimensions and close to the same strength as spp's.

Federal small pistol magnum primers are nothing more than their small rifle primers. Depending on what you mean by ".223" primer, they may be slightly hotter or slightly less sensitive than regular small rifle primers.

I use CCI small rifle primers in the 9MM+P ammo I load for the MP40. It will set the primers off. As noted some "inexpensive" pistols or those with weak firing pin springs may not do it. If you try them, load a couple or 5 up and try it before mass producing any ammo.

Some SRP are no hotter than SPM primers but they do have a harder cup. Like said above, if your handgun will fire them just drop back and work your load up again like you would when you change any component in the recipe.

Thanks...with the shortage of small pistol primers around here just thinking of a way to keep loading 9mm. Thanks again!

I tried using Wolf 223 primers for handgun ammo.

I had ~60-70% light strikes in a G19.

A month later, I tried it again in an FNX, figuring a hammer-fired pistol might do better. I experienced approximately the same failure rate, and second strikes had a 0% success rate. (To this day, I've never had any success with a second strike except for the time I cut too many coils off a 9x18 pistol mainspring. And even then, it only worked if I ejected the round and rechambered it, so I put any stock in "second strike capability." But I digress.)

Since my rifle doesn't really need 223 primers, I switched to regular SRP. I've shot at least 1k CCI 400's in my handguns without a failure. It's nice to know my SRP's can do double duty if need be.

I just finished loading 2500 rounds or 124gr. jacketed bullets, using the max load for AA#5. I use Wolf/Tula small rifle primers for all my 9mm and .223 reloading. All my 9mm ammo is shot through a G17 or G26. I never get any light strikes!!!
