I recently bought a .223 stevens 200.

I also bought full length resizing and trim file dies, 200 winchester cases, and 250 55 gr v-max bullets from Midway.

And got a really neat Midway catalog [with Potterfield equivalent of Jacques P Herter] reminiscent of Herter's catalog in the mail.

Varget and cci small rifle primers purchased from sportsman's warehouse

I told our son.

So he had delivered 200 ss109 bullets.

I ground the side of one of the ss109 bullets down with a belt grinder.

Sparks flew once the copper was ground away.

Let me TRY to post a jpg.

A 55 gr v-max is in the middle.

WOW! Boat tail. Cannnelure.

QUESTIONS

1 How many grains of varget to start with. I'm thinking in the range of 24 to 26 in 2 grain increments.

2 How do ss109's do for prarie dog and other varmint hunting.

And steel plate penetration at different Rockwell hardnesses? For grins, of course.

Research [If we knew what we were doing, then they wouldn't call it research AA Einstein] on ss109 penetration on Internet is pretty impressive.

So us senior citizens request opinions. Not necessarily answers.

heh

when i read your first post, before seeing the picture, i thought you were grinding all the copper off the bullet to get down to the core, and then you found a hornady vmax inside the ss109! needless to say, i was pretty confused until i saw the picture

sorry i don't have an answer for you, other than shooting ss109 with varget is a waste of good powder. ss109 wont' be as accurate, and if you do hit a p-dog, they won't explode like they will with a varmint round. don't get me wrong; you'll for sure get its attention. it just won't be as satisfying

55 v-max

Maybe p-dog is wearing kevlar vest?

I'll focus on 55 gr v-max.

Friend who had 30-06 cartridge go off in seating die, adjusted remington 700 trigger to about 4.5 lbs today.

Thanks for advice.
