Hi, all. Just getting in to .223 for my new AR. Manuals state s trim length of 1.760.

The 250 American Eagle case I just bought arrived with most hovering around 1.738 - 1.742. Should I be surprised?

Since they are short and I would normally trim all the same length, should I standardize on one length?

Should I buy different brand brass elsewhere. I will probably only need 250.

Thank you.

Regards/sbw

Maximum length is 1.760
Trim to length is 1.750
Minimum length is 1.730

Just load them, shoot them, and when they are at or over max trim them.

I was troubled about new cases being short, too, until another member squared me away about "trim to" length.

Federal 223/556 brass is always short which is nice because you won't have to trim them for a while. If you do have to end up trimming them, count yourself lucky. Federal brass is pretty soft and in my experience the primer pockets loosen up within 2-3 reloads and won't hold a primer.
