.223 Remington, Winchester 748, Hornady 68gr HPBT Match.

My load data book (Speer #13) doesn't have a load for this and I need to figure out how to get 2850 fps with this combo. Anyone have published load data available? Please list the source and also the min and max load and I'd appriciate it.

For the record I've been using 52gr HPBT Match with very good results but I wanted to try something heavy. I tried the Black Hills match and they were good. They shoot at 2850 so I'd like to try handloading these.

Thanks in advance and shoot safe

99, what type of rifle are you using and what is the twist? The Hornady is designed for 1 in 9 or 1 in 7. The Hornady #4 gave approximatley 26.5 grains of 748. Byron

AR 1in9 but I know they work well, I tried the Black Hills already. I just want to try matching the velocity.

What's the min and max in the Hornady #4.

beer,

Winchester data from their 2003 reloading components manual states a load for 69 gr. HPBT 24.5 gr of 748 @ 2870 fps and 51,500 psi BUT THIS IS A MAX LOAD, but if you use your 68 gr. bullet, you could probably work up to the velocity you want.

Hornady 5th states 23.4 grs for min 25.8 grs. Max for 68 gr HPBT for a max velocity of 2800fps with 748. the rifle was a Colt AR15 20" 1in9 twist WIN bras WSR prime C.O.L. 2.250"

NC and Dagger, Thanks for correcting my error. One bit of irony is the data for the Speer 70 grain semi spitzer. It shows a max load of 27 grains of 748 and a magnum SR primer. I have shot this load in a 1 in 12 twist with good 100 yard accuracy. Maybe it has something to do with the alloy content of the jackets on the 68 vs. the 70. Byron
