I have a sig m400 that I am trying to get the reloading lined out using the HDY 68gr HP/BT and 75gr HP/BT.

I am having a problem getting the rounds to chamber correctly. COL is 2.25-2.23. It appears the problem is that the HP does not want to slide up the ramp easily and pushes the bullet further back into the case. When I chamber one and then eject it, the bullet is pushed way down into the case.

I tried putting a light crimp on them with a the lee factory crimp. doesn't seem to really make a difference.

When I load the 55g FMJ/BT, they chamber perfectly no problems.

a. how much crimp does anybody really put on these things, if you crimp at all.

b. any suggestions or 'special' things you do when you reload hollow points and go to chamber them.

thanks,

doug

I have read somewhere about this problem before. Dont remember where but i believe that trying a different magazine or stiffer magazine spring may help. Are you using a 30 rd mag? May i suggest contacting sig? As i have learned sometimes guns can be very particular to certain bullets. What you want to work and what the gun likes are two different things.

Are you FL sizing?

This shouldn't happen if you have good (.003 - .005) neck tension, there's no need to crimp .223 normally.

Put one against a table and push as hard as you can. If you can push the bullet into the case with hand pressure, you don't have sufficient neck tension to hold the bullet in place.

I have FL sized, trimmed and prepped the cases with a lot of due diligence.

I have been working on getting these two bullets to work for some time as I have read that they are supposed to be very accurate in the 1-7 twist barrel which I have. They may just not work in the gun. the 55g HDY FMJ/BT work perfectly. Dunno. This is my last run at these. If I can't get them to work after any info I gather on this thread, I'm done with them.
