I am trying to set up a .22 with a scope (pride and fowler 3-9x32 on a savage mkII fss) but I am wondering what scope mount and rings I will want. What do you think is the best set up for this rifle? I am also looking for a 9"-13" bipod. Thanks again for the help.

Without searching Midway for your scope and Savage for your specific model characteristics, how big is your objective lens and which stock does your rifle have?

I am very happy with this Simmons White Tail Classic scope on sale at Midway. I put it on an AR with a TS upper using Burris Z -Rings. It is very clear, the adjustments are smooth, the parallax adjustment will work at 25 yards (many won't), plenty of power for 100 yards and beyond, the adjustments are all smooth, and it's a steal at the sale price.

Walkalong, he has to take into account the different harmonics generated by the .22lr. I have seen very high quality scopes built for magnum calibre rifles get blown up by a .22lr. Something about them and air rifles (some not all) and the much higher frequency of the impulse wave they generate will bust up a scope not built for them.

I've heard about air rifles, but not .22 LR. Someone please chime in cause I have nice glass on two rimfires I would cry about if they died.

They won't ALL do it to them. And I have no explanation as to why it is not with all 22lr other than perhaps the action bedding or whatever. Just know that it has to do with the harmonics of the round. Just one of them "hell if I know" things.

With .22LRs, I'm not aware of problems with scopes, except for semi-autos. Most people go through a lot more rounds of .22LR than centerfire and the slam-bang of blowback designs can rattle cheaper scopes over time. I've seen that first-hand, but bolt actions and levers are relatively easy on scopes. Even the very cheap ones seem to last a long time.

Interesting. I shall see how my Simmons holds up. Never heard that before.

Boatloads of 10/22 autos with regular scopes on them out there. Anyone have one tear up a scope? Lots of AR uppers running around as well. Anyone have problems?

Well my experience with it was on a Marlin 60 a number of years back and I believe it was a Redfield scope but it has been a while. I do remember I had the scope on a pretty violent 45/70 before that (I know I know what the hell did I have it on that for) but it was fine for like 20 shots after I put it on the .22. Then it just Popped! I talked to my smith down at the gun shop and he told me that he had seen that a number of times. Said that was the reason you had purpose built .22/airgun scopes on the market.

I mounted my Pride Fowler 3-9 X 32 on my Anschutz sporter with Talley "low" one piece Dovetail ringmounts.

Talley makes several sizes of dovetail style ringmounts. I called them and they were able to pick out the right one for me on the Anschutz and to advise me that on my CZ I'd need the medium height rings for the same scope due to bolt clearance issues.
