I'm looking to put together a 22LR "ultra-long range fun rifle" using a Pride-Fowler Rapid Reticle scope, and a accurate rifle, that costs $300 or under. What, in your opinion, is the most accurate 22 bolt rifle for $300 or less? Thanks-

for my own curiosity.... what is ultra long range in the context of a 22LR? I just checked... the pride-fowler 22lr scope is only calibrated out to 200 yards... so I guess it's 200 yards. :) Probably great practice for long range muzzle loader shooting. :)

I've heard good things about the Savage MkII FV (which has a bull barrel and so on) for around $250. They are said to be reasonably accurate and not that expensive.

I don't know about "most accurate" but my CZ 452 is way, way more accurate than I am. I'm tempted to scope it just to see what it can do....

Just some thoughts....

452 Ultra LUX Beechwood stock with golden features & 28" Hammer forged sighted barrel $285.99

452 Training Rifle Beechwood stock & 22.5in Hammer forged sighted barrel $241.99

452 American Turkish walnut sporter stock w/22.5in Hammer forged barrel $312.99

I'm going to have to break it up a little:neener:. Although I can vouche for the CZ-452, you really need to give the Russian rifles a look. Especially the Biathlon Basic.

Flip.

Fatelvis, the CZ 452s are the best .22 rifles available in the price range you require.

The Special (aka Trainer) is stocked for open sight shooting. Here I am using mine in our local 50/50 Sporter Match:

The CZ 452 American is stocked better for scope use:

But, it will cost over $300.

Mine is box stock and I posted this fine 50 yard USBR target to win an online benchrest match last month (Factory Sporter Class on RFC):

I'm still more of a Brno/CZ kind of guy, but I definitely have to admit those Biathlon Basics are are a huge bang for the buck also... man can they shoot too.

I'm going to throw my hat into the Biathlon Basic camp. Nothing against CZs (I love them in fact) but I think you get more for your money with the Biathlon.

let us face it, there are many very accurate 22's out there; anything marlin , savage, the Toz rifles, now also called winchester wilcats, BB's are very good, and yes the cz , with it's set trigger is fan freakin tastic. Remmington i wonder about , i have not shot their new models, nor do i know anyone who has, and let us not forget Browning, with its killer new flush fit figure 8 mags, but both these will be over 300 bucks. As long as you stay away from ruger, you should be allright.
As far as scopes are concerned , if you get a shepperd scope, get one made for 22lr caliber rounds, and you can take 300 and even 400 yd shots with them, but they will cost you a couple of bucks, though.

CZ Trainer will come in under $300. All the others mentioned will be a bit over. I have a Trainer and I love it, but I would say that my Biathlon Basic is more "bang for the buck" in terms of accuracy and a really great trigger. But compared to the CZ's it's a pretty ugly duckling, if that matters to you.

In the price range you give, I would also say the CZ452. If you really wanted to put alot of money into it you could invest in a Winchester 52C. Those are truely a pleasure to shoot, but way above your budget.

Ultra long range?

Ultra long range .22 thats just too funny. I love my rimfires so any .22 thread catches my eye. Ultra long range would be 100 yards so it struck me funny. If you haven't gotten it already. Ceeeeeeeeeeeee Zeeeeeeeeeeeee if you want a bolt gun. If you want an autoloader you can sink $$$$$$ in a 10/22 which is fun . Or you could invest in a TC classic and have your uber accurate .22 out of the box.

Well, you will have trouble getting a Ruger 77/22 for less than or equal to $300.00. But, I discovered recently that a factory Ruger can shoot accurately.

"...ultra-long range..." What do you call "ultra-long range"? 150 yards is a long way for a .22. Those little bullets are easliy blown around by the slightest wind.
Any good quality heavy barreled, bolt action .22 can drive tacks with the right ammo. Some of 'em are so accurate that they become boring. (No. 7 Lee-Enfields are like that with cheap ammo and a mediocre trigger. You won't find one of them for $300 though.) Savage makes a heavy barreled Mk II F .22 for $181 MSRP. Comes with their AccuTrigger. $354 MSRP will buy you their Mk II FVT with target sights.
The Biathalon rifles have extremely quick, straight pull, actions. They're target rifles too.
A scope doesn't make any rifle more accurate though. If a rifle isn't accurate to start with a scope won't help.
As with any .22, you'll have to try a box of as many brands of ammo as you can to find the ammo that your rifle will shoot well. If you opt for a semi-auto, it'll have to cycle the action as well.
"...stay away from Ruger..." Nonsense. Even a stock 10/22 can drive tacks. The right ammo is essential though.
Sheffieldshootr, that a laminated stock? Sure is pretty.

For the record 100 yards is LONG range for me and my .22s.

Where the heck do you find a Biathalon Basic these days. I would love one.

I still stand by my 452 suggestion but Ruger makes some darn fine .22 bolt .22s and even the 10/22 is pretty accurate just hobbled by a really bad factory trigger.

As others have asked on this thread. What is meant by ultra-long range for a .22?

I would consider "normal" long range for a .22 LR to be 100 yards.

I am president of my shooitng club. Me and a couple of other friends are the only ones that take the iniative to create and run matches at my club. So, the others have to pay for it by playing our games or create their own.

That big Ruger weighs 8 lbs and 10 ozs. It is too heavy for CMP Sporter. Too expensive and heavy for the RFC online sporter matches. Really not competetive for the RFC Unlimited matches without a bunch of custom work.

So, I have been thinking of taking my shooting friend's, Jim Watson's, advice and starting a scaled down version of the center fire F Class game for .22 LR only. We have a 100 yard centerfire range at our club. Use rifles like this big Ruger with a bi-pod attached, fired from prone, maybe shoot little chickens (1.5 inch), and generally lob em in there watching the little slug along its way through the awesome T-36 or the like. Oh, and don't allow wind flags. Make em have to look at the foliage and the grass to dope the wind (quasi field conditions). I think Jim suggested calling it the Raptor Match. Maybe set the weight limit at 9.5 or 10 lbs and let all but the largest target or bench rifles in.

Some fun huh?

PS Yes Sunray, that stock is laminated (and heavy).
