Ruger

for sure a Ruger, an old 22/45 or a MK I or II , dont know about the III yet...

, just got a NEW 22/45, cant wait to put a brick through it ,
just took my MK II apart and back together again , twice, from memory, had to watch the U tube videos to take the new one apart and back together wasnt toooooooooo bad , then did it again without the video more procedures ... more safe I guess
so now I have three
im partial to 1911's
so the old 22/45 slabsides stainless Competition target model I have is my fav
cant wait to try out my new MK III 22/45 target model 5 1/2"
bull barrel black I wanted stainless but too much more money
and I already have one for wet conditions (my old 22/45 that is )
I looked closely at the buckmark before I bought my new one Im sure its a great piece
but rugers reliability has won me over a long time ago with every one I have owned or do own now from my 10/22's to my ranch thirty
to my target hornet and if your gonna buy a six gun Ruger makes enough models to please everyone

The main problem with cheap bulk .22 LR is misfires. I have to say that the last couple boxes of 525rd Federal HP's I've bought at various places have had few misfires and function well in my Browning Buckmark.

The .22 misfires with good firing pin strike I've taken apart you can see that the priming compound is missing wither where the firing pin hit or altogether. On some I've seen larger pieces of priming compound mixed in with the powder. Some of this could be due to how roughly the boxes of ammo are handled when shipped and stocked in the store.

Changing to a revolver or any other gun isn't going to fix intrinsic problems with the ammo.

Cant go wrong with a .22, have you considered a conversion kit, most service weapons have one, and you get to shoot your usual gun, cheaply

From my limited experience, I would buy a Ruger with a 5-5.5" bull barrel (Mark III or 22/45) or a Smith & Wesson 617 from today's choices. I prefer revolvers overall, but it is fun to blast away with the semi-auto pistol too. I shoot my Ruger Mark II better than most revolvers, but I still prefer DA revolvers in general for most handgun shooting.
