.22lr MEGATHREAD

Just got back from the local shop - he's been getting a lot of 22LR shipments lately (almost every day?), but it's a smorgasbord.

Today he had some Federal AutoMatch, but they were $24.95 / 325 rds. - at's 'bout $6 more than I want to pay - last ones I got at Walmart were $18.95, having a price drop of $1 / box. At one time area Walmarts were getting a lot of the AutoMatch, but they've not been in the stores in a long time.
Still trying to figure out what the heck is going on with the supply chain?
Why did Walmart go from getting a lot of AutoMatch to absolutely none?

The Winchester Subsonics that the local shop got in Monday @ $5.99 / box, $59.99 brick are moving very slowly.
Apparently folks are becoming a bit more discriminating AFA what they're willing to pay for 22LR these days?

Dick's Sporting Goods hit the jackpot!?

Got a call from a friend today around 11am - said our local Dick's had tons of 22LR arrive last night - Winchester M*22 and Remington Tubs, but he had me at M*22.

I swung by before my buddy left - he said clerk told him they got in 300,000 rds. of M*22, which means 150 of the 2,000 rd. M*22 in the Plano ammo "can". My buddy laughed and said his handle came off the box before he got his to the car, but it did snap back on.
The M*22 was $129.99 / can (before tax) for 2,000 rds. and the Plano ammo "can".

I assume he's correct on the numbers - I found it a little hard to believe they got in 150 cans of the M*22, but he swears his numbers and math are correct based on what the clerk told him.

I have no idea how many of the 1,400 rd. Remington tubs they got it - most folks I saw were walking out with the Remington (probably because it was cheaper?).

I got an e-mail alert from Dick's this morning, but all the link brought up was stores that had ammo for walk-ins only. I got cornfused and was thinking Gander Mountain - when I checked cities, I didn't see the closest Gander Mountain listed, so I blew it off. Went back later and saw it was Dick's, and my city was listed!

Here's the link to Dick's Bulk 22 Store List announcement I got this morning if it does any of you some good?

Wonder if Dick's is sucking the M*22 out from under Walmart?
I haven't seen any M*22, Federal 550, or Winchester 555 show up in area Walmarts in quite some time.

Swung by the local Dick's Sporting Goods this morning - he didn't sell out of M*22 and the 1,400 rd. tubs of Remington yesterday.

Still had around 10 of the Plano Ammo Cans / 2k rds. M*22 on the floor (don't know if more elsewhere) and around 6 of the Remington tubs.
It was reported yesterday they got in 150 of the Plano / M*22 cans - don't know how many of the Remington tubs they got in.

If I were to hazard a guess, I'd say many more folks were buying the Remington yesterday - it was cheaper @ $69.99 / tub (4.9999 cents / rd.) vs. $129.99 for the Winchester M*22 (6.4995 cents / rd.) - last M*22 I bought @ Walmart was 5.174 cents / rd. How much extra you're paying for that Plano plastic ammo can is anybody's guess.
These prices don't include sales tax.

I guess my buddy got the straight scoop from 'em yesterday - they must have gotten in a ton of 22LR!

Won't take much of that to end the 22LR shortage in my neck o' the woods - 22LR buying has already been severely curtailed - I'm seeing more folks that are now price sensitive, which wasn't the case in the recent past.

I went to one of those organized traveling gun shows last week end and two different ammo sellers I have seen before had lowered their usual prices on 22lr bricks---not to a reasonable low, but still lower than before.

Both were asking $50 for a 550 brick of Federal when they had been previously asking $60 for the same about a month before. That's down from almost 11 cents a round to 9 cents. Still too much, but maybe its a sign they are getting nervous that supplies are loosening and they'll get stuck.

Just a speculation on my part.

Cheers

P.S. Right now with brass I already have, I can reload .38 special for less than the price of most .22 LR, so that's mostly what I have been shooting.

I haven't shot any of the .22's for almost a year now.

Last Federal 550 I bought @ Walmart was $23.97 / brick - I'm sure that's where your flippers got 'em, as I think the 550 brick is exclusive to Walmart?

I've only seen 'em on one online gouger - everybody other than Walmart seems to get the blue box 525 Federal - Walmart gets the burgundy box 550.

About a month ago, the Walmarts in my area got flooded with the Federal 550 - more stores, more deliveries, and more boxes in each delivery.

Since that big run, they've gotten nothing.

Figured I'd swing by the local Dick's on the way out to eat this evening just to see how the ammo has moved:
1. Still had 4 Winchester M*22 / 2k rd. Plano cans (had 6 this morning).
2. All the Remington 1,400 rd. tubs are gone.
3. Had 6 bricks of Thunderbolts on the shelf @ $24.99 - said he had more in the back - no idea how many of those they originally got in, as I didn't bother to check on them over the last couple of days.

My local Dick's got a pile of Thunderbolt, Golden Bullets, and Winchester M22 this weekend. People steadily bought it, but there were no lines. Word is they still have it in stock.

Swung by Dick's on the way out to eat lunch Sunday - all the M*22 is gone (last Plano box being bought @ 11:45am), all Remington tubs were gone yesterday, but he had around 20 boxes or more of the Remington Thunderbolt on the shelf. I was almost tempted to buy a brick of the Remington to see if they have improved (as some say), but couldn't bring myself to do so.
When bean counters destroy a company's reputation, it takes a loooooong time to get it back (if ever).

It seems Dick's inventory with this shipment has lasted from Friday morning (when I assume it was put out) to Sunday with plenty of Thunderbolt still on the shelves.

Things must be a little better, got to work today and my pops says thanks for your help and dropped a 525 pack of Remington Golden somethin or another on my desk. Said he got it at Gander for 25 bucks (limit 1).

Not exactly the bonus Ive been dreaming of, but hey, you take what you can get:)

.22 Ammo Returning to "Normal" ?

A little over 4 1/2 cents per round sounds good to me.:)

I get e-mail alerts from Midway - every time I stick the "one box limit" brick in my cart, shipping is $16.95 - I'll pass.

Shipping on small items seems to be reasonable these days (if not slow) - I've had a number of small items shipped from 'em for $4.95.

I got an email alert today. One of the big retailers had Remington Golden Bullets on sale. The ad actually said "Match Grade accuracy". They're kidding right?

Local Dick's in Lawrence, KS keep saying they are getting some, but have yet to see it. They have some 17 HMR, but is over-priced.

Maybe. Maybe not.

Likely it is an advertising faux pas. Personally, I doubt Remington has upgraded their Golden Bullet quality to "match grade".

However, I personally haven't had any reliability issues with them in the last few years in any of the several bolt action rifles we have.

I think the vast majority of complaints about reliability of 22 ammo, be it Rem or Win or whatever, come from shooting semis. I have a lot of semi handguns that are finicky about ammo. Several of my semi rifles are finicky as far as reliability on certain ammos is concerned. Whether that is the difference in firing pins or ammo I don't know but I eventually learn to match up the gun with the ammo it shoots best.
The ONLY problem I have ever had with a 22 bolt having misfires was a sticky firing pin in an old winchester. I have fired untold thousands of rounds of Golden over the years and probably have 5k of them right now.

CCI Mini Mags at local Gander yesterday , .08 per round. no miracle , but not too bad for a good round. Got a brick of federal there a few weeks back at .065 per round. Things are gradually looking up , but I don't think it will ever get to the point where you can walk into a store and choose from the broad selection on the shelves. Too many factors , so much economic instability , so much distrust of government , too much social unrest.

I get it when and where I can.

The ammo drought may be breaking

The Brown Truck just dropped off a case (5,000 rounds) of Sellier & Bellot .22 LR, HV HP from Palmetto Armory. I put 50 rounds through my Colt Officers Model Target.

1. Accuracy: 1 1/2 to 2 inches at 25 yards. (Remember, this is a revolver)
2. Reliability: No misfires
3. Cost: $4.69 a box -- cheapest .22s on the Palmetto Armory site, and cheapest on any other site I could find.

Yup. I'd noticed that too. I think all the people buying everything up for personal use either ran out of money or space or both. Now, the flippers will need to find something else to hawk.

Picked up some Federal at Academy the other day for $2.29 a box and some Remington at Bass Pro for $2.19 a box.

Of course there were 5-box limits on them, but I got 500 rounds for a little over $25 so I was happy.

You spent over 500 bucks on 5000 22 rds and think the drought is over? If it was it would be less then half of that. May God save the Queen lol
