I need a .22lr rifle. I just got an older marlin 783 win. mag. and love it- except for the price of ammo. I wish I could find another just like it in .22lr but I can't. So is ther a .22lr with wood stock and tubular magazine that's cheap? If not I'm thinking a tula arsenal .22 with a magazine (wood stock again) like the toz-78 I think it's called? If I can't find that what are some good pump action and lever actions with tube magazines that are inexpensive? I'm not interested in a semi-auto btw.

marlin makes a semi-auto with a tubular magazine - model 60 i believe. they are sold in many places, particularly walmat stores. i'm sure many millions have been sold. you might consider one.

^ what he said.

Savage Mark IIs (my first shooter that didn't burn soot) are very accurate. The FSS (synthetic-stainless) isn't horribly expensive, has fiber-optic sights, and will hit thumb-tacks at 50 yards quite regularly. If you want one that has a tick more zip to it, the 93 FSS is the exact same rifle except chambered in .22 WMR. Both are bolt-action.

Tube mag manual repeater? That calls for a levergun. Marlin, Henry, Winchester. Wait, Marlin may also make a turnbolt with a tube mag... yes, here it is:

The 981T

Wait, no, that one is not a wood stock - guess they discontinued the wood stock version of the 981....however, they can be found used, IINM.

I'd just get a Marlin 39A and be done with it. Wait, no, that's not cheap.... hmm, tough question.

If you can handle a detachable box magazine (and haven't already picked one up), then the Izmash Sobol or Biathlon (imported by RAA) may be a good option; I am considering picking one up myself, if I can find one.

:)

The Marlin model 781 that I posted earlier can also shoot shorts, longs & long rifle as can the model 981T.

Not sure if the Savage can do that.

981T also has the T-900 trigger. Easily adjusted.
