I noticed that the high velocity feredal I was shooting seemd much louder than the .22's i remeber shopoting a couple years ago. i also remember shooting 22's that had a shorter and more rounded bullet. They also semmed quiter. Were these target or subsonic bullets or something. I was thinking they would be good to pick up just becuase they may not be as loud.

Could well be the sub-sonic variety. 22LR ammo runs from very mild (less than 1,000FPS) to really hot stuff approaching 1500FPS.

I don't have the specs in fronmt of me, but I shot some Federal "Spitfire" recently. Seemed louder to me than the Federal "American Eagle" brand.

Standard velocity is just below the speed of sound and more accurate than high-velocity that starts barely supersonic but quickly drops below the speed of sound.
The hyper-velocity rounds are a further above the speed of sound, but the lighter bullets used to achieve this are often pretty crummy, and the rounds are usually the least accurate.

So is there a noticeable idderence in sound? And what would be the point of high velocityt if theres less accuracy. because without accuracy whats the points of distance? It it like a gimmick or something? Would I be better of with standard velocity?

Agh! Oog! Arrgghh! Urg! Gasp! :what:

Jeez.... my freakin' Jr. High English teacher is pinwheeling in her grave! I can hear it from here!

I (Almost) Always Use CBs or Subsonics and a Target Turret Scope

All you have to do is know the distance, then dial it in. Simple as that. I generally can keep 2" groups off the bench with sub-sonic, target rounds in a match-grade rifle at 225 yards. But, in all seriousness, over the summer I would typically fire around 500 rounds per day. Practice makes "nearly" perfect, but not quite.

The .22LR is my all-time favorite round. There simply is no better, IMHO for medium range varmint with an ultra accurate rifle or pistol, i.e. Kimber, Ruger 10/22 HB, Contender, etc.

Try the heavy .22LR, 60 grain "Sniper" rounds "Aguila" some time. I found them disappointing in my firearms, but others claim they are awesome. Check out the Tracer .22LR some rainy day just for kicks, especially near (15 Mins. before sunset). :)

I also like Remington Thunderbolts, and Remington Blue Target loads.
