.22s: Will choose S&W MP or New Ruger Mark IV.

I have an old Ruger standard that is a lot of fun to shoot- in fact, I put about 100 rounds through it today. I also have a M&P 22. I like it because it is more similar to the pistols I carry, from a training aspect- also, mine has a threaded muzzle, so I can put my suppressor on it if I want.

Between those two, I would choose the Ruger. In fact, if I were to buy a .22 pistol today, I would choose the Ruger and then the Browning Buckmark. I just like the nearly no-felt recoil of all metal .22 pistols. Additionally, the Ruger accessories are in abundance. It's a proven design by a respected and reputable manufacturer that comes in a plethora of different variations. It might cost more than some of the polymer .22s, but its a solid piece of engineering.
Exactly my thinking.

I'll be specific -- I'd go with the 5 1/2" Ruger MK IV heavy barrel with adjustable sights. The triggers on these guns can be tuned or you can buy a drop-in replacement trigger. For woods carry and general utility use, it's impossible to beat.

My gut says go with the Ruger. (Of course, my gut says lots of things, including "more bacon, please.") With that said, it may depend in part on the purpose of this pistol. For a target pistol, I'd almost certainly go with the Ruger. For a boat/camping/snake gun, I'd look more closely at the S&W. I only say "look more closely" as I know next to nothing about their reliability.

I have a S&W M&P Compact 22 and a Mark III Ruger 22/45 Target. The Ruger is modified with Volquartsen sear and numerous other parts. 2.2lb trigger.

They are complete different animals both I love each equally. For accuracy I shoot the Ruger much better on paper targets. For training I think the M&P is better at simulating a defense handgun. Ergonomics are a personal thing but I give the edge to the M&P. It also only weighs 15.2 oz. Unlike the Sig Mosquito and several other similar 22's it is 100% reliable and does not require high velocity ammo.

A decision needed to be made. Bought the S&W. Lots of fun! With the size and other ergos so similar to my main carry guns-the CZ PCR and Sig P228-being able to keep both thumbs pretty much parallel on the frame seems more beneficial than with the smaller 22s. You Really burn up lots of ammo!

With the cheaper brands of ammo (Win., Federal) there can be about four weak rounds in each 100 rds.
This does Not matter to me. Just info, and is usually a failure to push the slide far enough rearwards to feed the next round.

Sarge7402: Don't know who you were asking.

They were not familiar to me at all, it was easier to narrow choices down to two or three (handled in a store), and because it takes time just scanning a small bit of info on any single brand or type.

Override,
I just bought the M&P Compact, delivered on Tuesday and shot it Friday. Loved the feel. Bought it mostly to start the kids onto handgun transition. Although my youngest loves my 9mm Shield, she has some trigger/stance work to do first and figured this would help greatly.
Handled nice right out of the box, the rear sight is adjustable up and down via flat head screw driver.
Ran CCI HV polymer red white blue and Rem Golden bullet (40gr) thru it with zero issues. Then ran CCI standard velocity thru it, 75 rds, no issues either. You could definitely feel a difference between the HV and the standard. But the weapon still cycled flawlessly.
Got it from GrabAGun for $279. Shipping was fast and it was nice that they confirmed my FFL with me.
I can't comment on your other choice, but this is a fun weapon to target shoot with and clean up was real easy.

Very hard decision since both have their advantages. I think you made the right call for your needs. VERY friendly gun. It is known for shooting all normal ammo with 100% reliability (if there is such a thing). Lol The Sig Mosquito was my first choice but needs high velocity (expensive) ammo.

You are going to love it! Plus, it could be used as a self defense gun. It's also got the rail for a light. Multiple safeties including the childproof one with a secret key. Very visible sights for us old guys. It only needs one accessory, a Hilljack magazine loader. $9.95 & free shipping.
