Ive been loading the 230 gr.XTP"S for my 1911's for quite a while and they give me good accuracy and penitration.I load these with 6.4 gr.Unique and get no presure sign's and just shy of 900fps in my 5". I want to start loading some 230 gr.Gold dot sb. bullets For my ultra carry 3".Do any of you load this bullet and what load do you favor.I will of course reserch and work my load up.But a nudge in the right direction can save a lot of bullets.
Thank's,Bob.

Bob,
There's no reason to think your 230gr XTP load won't shoot just as well with a 230gr Speer Gold Dot bullet. Of course you should work up to that load but it should work.

The link above is to the Alliant Load Data for the 230gr GD bullet using Unique. They list a Max charge of 6.0gr Unique so your load is slightly hot according to Alliant. BUT, they also use an OAL of only 1.200", if your OAL is longer you are probably just fine. (just to let you know for safety)

Thanks,I know according to the data it is a little warm but its not really excessive. Its not my standard plinking load I use w231 for that, but with the XTP it has been verry accurate.Im comfortable with unique powder it's fairly forgiving compared to some powders.I will start at 5.9 and go up 1/10th at a time,Id like to get to 800fps out of the 3" with the Gold Dot. and will stop when I get there or pressure sighns show up.My xtp load ran 860 out of my 3.5" Colt officer and 880 to 905 out of my 5"guns.I f I can get 800 or alittle more from the Gold Dot Ill be happy.
