Hello all. I am awaiting my first 243 in a tikka t3. Need some advice on which powders 243s typically like. To make it tricky i want to be able to shoot 55gr bullets to 95. More so the 65 and 75 gr vmax and 95 gr hornady SST's.Right now i have Benchamrk and Varget powders on hand. I am looking at accuracy and speed like everyone:). Just want to narrow it down to a few powders before i go shopping..

Thanks

H4895 would work well. Works well for me in the 6mm Remington, which is very similar.

I have used IMR 4831 for years and have had good accuracy in several 243's. Byron

I mostly use IMR 4350, RL 15 and 17 and Varget in my 243. My particular rifle loves varget with 58 grn V-Max. But prefers the others with heavier bullets.

I've used IMR 4831 with 100gr. SP bullets and IMR 4064 with 65gr. Vmax bullets. Both had acceptable results. 243 twist rate has somewhat of an affect on bullet choice and accuracy considerations, but not a lot.

IMR 4350 68gr to 90gr. CCI Br2 H4350 is slower, did not work as well for me. Berger bullets. >>The Sierra 85 gr HPBT Gameking #1530 is a good all around bullet when loaded with IMR 4350-42 to 43gr , CCI BR2 primer Win. brass.<< Works well in many gun i have used it in. Start low on the power charge , work up.

I've used H-4350 with good results 70gr to 100gr in 243win.

I'm currently using H-Varget with 70gr to 100gr getting good results also.
As it's this powder I'm using with my 308win and 223rem, I'm trying to cut back on having alot of 1lb cans of powder to having a few larger cans/kegs that suit most my calibres.

So I haven't tried reloader 17 in 243win either. A buddy of mine likes W-760 in he's 243win and swears by it.

Your H-Benchmark maybe a little fast, to get the best results with bullets around 100gr, imo.

Try 48 grs 2213sc with 87gr sp Hornady or 43 grs ADI 2209 with 100gr Hornady. Works very well here in New Zealand.:)

243win & 55gr bullets

To keep throat erosion to a minimum, try to pick a bullet that seals the bore before the base of the bullet leaves the case mouth on firing. The base of the bullet is the full diameter, not the bottom of a boatail.

My Rem710 prints 1/2" with R22 behind 55 and 100g tips
4350 seems to work about as well. Everything has done better than the REM and WIN factory pills

Eveyrone has their own opinion and that's why there is chocolate and vanilla. Frankly I think Hodgdon's Varget is a great all around powder for all bullet weights in the 243. BTW I prefer chocolate! :)
