Greetings, much happier with the 25/06 now that i'm running a different bullet than the core lokt

6 deer with the Nosler's and all DRT over the last few days.. Two mature bucks in the group, the rest does

The mature bucks weighed in at 200 and 230 (both good 8 pts), two of the does weighed in at 132 and 139 respectively..

longest shot was 302 yards (139 lb doe), second longest 295 (90 lb doe)

complete and utter destruction of the chest cavity and opposite shoulder.. Hard to believe a 114 gr bullet could wreak so much havoc.. retrieved two of the bullets, held together very well..

I was always skeptical about bullet performance, and favored the std corelokts and power points..

much more educated now!

OldRook - did you get 100% penetration on all six shots? I assume not since you recovered a couple of the bullets but was curious. Thanks!

did not get complete penetration on the 139 lb doe at 302 yards

but the off shoulder was destroyed...

did not get complete penetration on the 230 lb buck, but i shot him dead on in the point of the chest...

I think shoulders or god forbid hams would be a chore for the small slug though most times don't you think?

might not get all the way thru unless range is close...

As long as you keep the yardage long on the shots... you will be fine with the 115 grain BT bullets, just don't count on them at close range at 25/06 velocities. I shot them for years ... went to a thicker base bullet ... been shooting the 25/06 since late '69.

I ve been thinking of getting a box of Federal Fusion 120 gr er ( i dont reload btw) . SO far i have the handloaded 100 gr Nosler BT for my Remington .2506 that s very accurate but im leery of using it for deer. Varmints are fine.

Thanks for the info. Very helpful.

I've had penetration issues with the 115grNosler Balistic Tip at ranges under 100yds from my .257WbyMag. M/V - 3,300fps.

From the .257Roberts at ~2,900-3,000fps m/v they do really well.

From the .25/06 I'd expect about what you've seen.

You might also like the Berger 115gr VLD. I like it from my .257Roberts too. My .257Wby is very ambivalent about this bullet accuracy-wise. I prefer it with either the 100gr Hornady PtSpt "Interlok" as well as the 117gr Hornady BTSPt Interlok. The latter is one of my favorite .257 bullets. I shot the largest deer ever with this in 1995. The bullet was fired from a .257Roberts at m/v of 2,850fps. Impact range was 230yds. Bullet hit in from of the left ham on a 230lb 8pt buck, and I recovered from under the hide of the right shoulder. Penetrated 30"+, and expanded back to the Interlok ring, and weighed 107gr. Sierra 117 BTSpt is also excellent as is the 120gr Hornady HP and 120gr Sierra HP. Of course the 115 and 120gr Nosler Partitions are good. The 120gr Swift's should be as good as it gets with a .257" bullet.

Love the 25-06 caliber. I can load mine up to a 120gr. bullet for large game or down to a 60gr. for varmits. With a lot of gr. choices in between. I usually load 85gr. Nosler ballistic tips for groundhogs, coyotes and other varmits. Me and a friend of mine used to groundhog hunt often. Me and my 25-06, him and his 220 Swift. Longest shot I ever took was right ar 320 yrds on a big ol hog. Nothing but chunks, lol.....
Here's a pic of my set up.....
