Hi guys,
I am considering having a 25-222 copperhead long neck built.

The copperhead but with a .450 neck to take up to 120 grain cast bullets.

My logic being that the 25-20 isn't enough case for big 25 bullets and the 25-35 is too much, well at least for moderate velocities or good fill.

Both my 25-20 and 25-35 are pretty accurate, but I truely believe that an in between case could be the sweet spot for 1600fps 115 grain cast bullets.

Any opinions appreciated.

I would really like to hear from anyone who shoots cast bullets in the copperhead or similar.

would a 257 Roberts be too much? you can load the 25-35 with trailboss for full cases...5744, 4198, 3031 and other types of powders like that can get you there too I think with the 25-35. if you have the Lyman manuals there should be a good number of recipes for these rifles. also remember if you can't find a good load for 25-35 look for loads for a 25 remington (same case only rimless)

are you casting your own? do you gc your bullets? with a gas check you can get more usable velocity and less leading (not sure if you know so I figure I'd bring it up)

on some of the cast bullet forums I have even seen and yes tried reloading data using surplus powders like WC860 (50BMG powders) in my Mosin Nagant and Enfield rifles using cast gc'd bullets.

with anything you use it at your own risk but most of these guys are not going to try something that will kaboom their rifles.

hope this helps

A bit yes. I do cast my own and have only used cast checked bullets in the 25-35 accuracy is quite good.

Perhaps I have wasn't clear I want a case that will achieve 1600fps roughly a have a good fill of a medium speed powder.

The 25-35 will be closer to 1900 with a good fill or obviously much slower. I guess just because I haven't tried to find accuracy at 2k doesn't mean I can't maybe I should try some loads of h4895.

hope you find it bro. :)

suggest you check out castboolits.gunloads.com

they might have folks there who know exactly what your hunting for.
