With a 256(6.5mm) Newton in the works Id like to see if anyone had any new(ish) data for this old cartridge. Ive got really old speer and original data but nothing from the last 25 years. Im going to give a non magnum 6.5 cartridge a try. I plan on shooting 129's/130's with a 1-9 twist and a 25" tube.

Is there a reason to shoot the .256 Newton over the 25-06? Just curious, not saying there's anything wrong with shooting the .256 Newton.

Ive got a custom rifle in a boring caliber so I figured Id switch things up a bit. I originally opted toward the .30 Newton but with its odd case head diameter(.525) I figured it to be too much of a pain. 256 brass is easily formed as I have just learned with my new set of dies and 270 brass. I simply turned the necks to match the thickness of my Jamison's 256 brass. Now to get the rifle back and blow cream of wheat all over the driveway fireforming cases.

The .256 Newton is the same as the 6.5-06 cartridge. there are several manuals that have the info you want. H-4831 will work well. The Nosler 125gr partition bullet is a fine deer and antelope cartridge.

Hello potential Newton cartridge shooters. Go to the www.NewtonArmsCompany.com for all your new brass, case forming, historical information and modern load date for .256, .30, .35, and .40 Newton. Lots of pictures, notes, books and everything, including a phone number for questions!!

According to Ken Waters, the .256 Newton is not the same as 6.5-06. Case length and length to shoulder are both shorter. Looks like it has more taper, too. He got velocity about 100 fps below .270.
