Some say there were about 3200 of them made, could be. I used one about 25 years ago and developed cast bullet loads for it, formed cases from new brass, not nickel, nickel cracks when you neck it down. Good cartridge, great gun. A few of the guns were offered new with a Bushnell Phantom scope in a rail mount, a few were 1.5X and a few 2.5X. The guns are highly sought after.
Marlin made the hammerless Model 62 in 256 and 30 Carbine and Thompson Center built 10" barrels for the Contender. Good guns and a good cartridge. Enjoy!!
