Anybody still loading for it ? I do load for a 26in. barrel 6.5x284. Mainly 120 gr. bullets.

I now have a 26 in. barrel Win. .264 Win Mag. I will use only 140 gr. bullets. Hunting is the goal, and Antelope is the hopeful result.
I also have a large supply of IMR 4831 and IMR 4350. I'm ready to start trial and error stuff. Has anybody found something worth looking at, or do I start from scratch?

Thanks for anything...............ronbird

I use surplus imr 5010. If I ever run out I'll just buy the slowest powder on the market. However I only use 160 grain bullets.

I was just discussing the the 6.5 x 284 a little wile ago with my Son and his buddy. That cartridge has me very intrigued and I too would love to hear more about that one. But I'm also interested in learning as much as I can about the 264 WM as well.
Didn't mean to hi jack your thread.

4350 is a bit fast for it. 4831 will work fine. 7828 and re22 are about ideal in it. My go to load is a nos bt 140 grain bullet with re22 and a fed match mag primer. 7828 shoots as well in it but i just at this time have more 22 on the shelf. I wont give my exact load as all the loading manuals have watered down loads that dont beat the 270 by much so you have to do your own footwork and work up slowly.

I use a .264 with 140 rain bullets to great effect on Pronghorn. Excellent plains rifle.

Don't load 264 Win but I do hot load 6.5x55 and I can tell you pretty plainly that 4350ish burn rates will be a bit fast for you with 140gr, I get my best results with RL22 and I imagine that something even slower would be best suited to your larger case. A 264 is a very overbore cartridge so with a high SD bullet extreme slow burning powders would be needed for optimal results, I would try in the H1000 or RL25 range. Try 140gr SSTs if you want a high BC fast expanding hunting bullet I get great accuracy and performance out of them.

No real need for the super slow powders in it either. In reality its not that much more overbore then a 7rem mag. Powders that do well in the 7s do just as well in the 264.

LOL the 7mm Rem Mag is pretty darn overbore itself, got home and checked my books H1000 and RL25 are both recommended powders but Nosler says they had their best accuracy with RL22, I would not doubt that for a second. They did record good speeds with 4350, 4831, and RL19 though which really surprised me.

Retumbo and a Berger 120 grain hunting bullet .... several whitetails killed with it in the last few years... flat fast ... would be good for plains goats ...
