Problem:
.270cal.Mannlicher-Schoenaur manufactured decades ago. Barrel in fine shape. I'm rolling 150gr. Nosler ballistic tips.
Rifle free-bore is very deep. The cartridge OAL ogive-to-lands is very long and if one seats the bullet .090" off lands the cartridge is still too long to fit into the magazine. I think the older European sporting rifles were made so to accommodate round nose bullets which of course have very short ogive to tip distances. Anyone have experience with round nose bullet ballistics relating to precision? Is backing the bullet > .100 off lands damaging to lands as bullet leaps forward? What would be a bullet recommendation?

Help!

1. Round nosed bullets can be quite accurate.

2. A bullet loaded > 0.1 off the lands isn't going to damage the lands.

Absolutely!

Usually, round nose bullets provide very reliable expansion on game.

Set your COAL to fit your magazine, the rest of your concerns will take care of themselves. You'll just need to verify the accuracy of your loads.

Shot 100 grain round nose in a 6mm Remington that was deadly on hogs and deer!! I believe they were Speer. Speer I believe also makes a 150 grain round nose for the 270, they were accurate in my brother's 270.
