I am thinking about using my .270 for shooting coyotes, bobcats and other varmints.

Is there any compelling reason to use 100 grain bullets on varmints or should I just use the 130 grain bullets I use for deer hunting? I do handload.

I would go with the 100 gr. less recoil , flatter shooting . Then on the other hand if you already deer hunt with the other load then you probably shoot a good bit sense you reload. An then you probably know right where that bullet hits and how much it drops at what range . hope i helped you on this

use the same load you use for deer. same point of aim/impact enough thump for any varmint, and it is always great to get extra hunting-condition practice w/ your deer load - no extra ballistics etc to remember.

i seriously doubt your shoulder will ever tell enough of a difference between a lighter grain bullet and a heavier to justify the extra load development time and ballistics familiararity, assuming both are running full honk.

when i had my .270, I used (factory) 100 grn on varmints, They would pretty much explode a wood chuck(can you say overkill?)...But I suspect that there's really very little difference..If you've got a good, accurate 130 grn. load probably just stick with it.
