270 Winchester for russian boar

I have picked up a 270 Winchester. I would like to know the opinions on how this performs on boar and what load would be a good all around utility load. I'm thinking the 150 nosler, however I have read that the newer accubonds and the copper bullet selections are very good in the lighter grain bullets ie 140 & 130 grainers. All thoughts are welcomed.

I've used the 130s on a lot of hogs and never had a problem. I still use Hornady's 130 gr.

Almost any regular cup and core bullet (130gr +) should work in the 270 for hogs as it is the cartridge almost every bullet in the caliber was intended for.

I love my 270 win, the perfect texas gun. I have shot a variety of bullets out of it. It has always liked 140 gr hornady interlock boattails, and have recently got it shooting 130 gr barnes TSX bullets. Either would be great. Not sure if you reload or not. For factory ammo its tough to beat Hornady custom or light mag stuff, not the polymer tipped, you want the soft lead point. Expensive but very accurate in my gun, and performs wonderfully.

heavy a load as you can get, and a nice soft point is allways good, or a partition will work great. Also the Federal fusion is a nicely performing bullet.

I used 150 30.06 power points before on them, they took them down, I've had two run after getting hit, all shots where pass throughs.

So, a .270 should work, just might not want to be too close when doing the shooting (its a little unnerving to see a hog run towards you after blowing its vitals out)

Your .270 will put down, and it will stay down, given proper shot placement, ANY hog you care to engage with it.

My .270 is my standard hunting rifle, and I use 130s. On deer and elk.

I consider Russian boar to be among the meanest critters on this planet, and if I were hunting them, I would want something with magnum in the title. But that's just me.

The .270 win has plenty of knockdown power for even the biggest pigs. BUT be aware that many animals who are fatally shot can still run 100+ yds with no problem. If you are hunting on the ground I would deifnitely recommend having a pistol with good stopping power as a back up weapon.

I have found that many .270's show a preferance for either 130 or 150 grain bullets.

Use the one YOUR rifle likes best.

There are russian boar in Texas? A .270 should be fine...but then again I have never been to Russia.

I killed many hogs in South Arkansas with 130gr Remington Core Lockts but the quality of that ammo seems to have really fallen in the last 5 or so years. I have recently become a big fan of Black Hills Gold loaded with the 130gr Barnes TSX. Terminal performance of that bullet is amazing.

The Russian boars were flown in disquised as commercial air lines. They were really crack airborne commandos. Cut the country right down the middle. West as far as Colorado and as east as the Mississippi. Hell son! You are 200 miles behind enemy lines. .270 should do fine on that Russian swine just duck those RPG's
