Hey guys, I have a quick question and I searched, but didn't find anything. I know a guy that has a 4inch model 29-2 nickle misstamped 28-2. I would rate the gun 95%. The gun comes in original box and has all the accessories.
What do you think this gun would value at. I know to some the misstamp means something, to me its nothing.

The mis-stamping adds little or no value to S&W revolvers. It is not an uncommon occurance. Check over on the S&W forums to read more about it.

Also, check if it's a Model 28 originally - during the seventies some gunsmiths would convert them. This was a period when S&W could not keep up with demand for the model 29.

The simplest conversion would be to change the barrel and cylinder. If the original barrel was re-bored (I'm not sure if this was possible) then it will be marked Highway Patrolman on the right side, or have a flat where the markings were ground off.
The Model 28 lacked serrations on the barrel rib, rear sight leaf and top of the frame above the forcing cone. The Model 29 had serrations on all three.
