I picked up a camera (for the wife, heh) last October and started messing around with photography which quickly got me into lighting. So, I setup some homemade lights to try and do some interesting projects with regards to lighting and shadows and wound up taking this last night... it's by far one of my favorite pictures, although it still got a little processing love.

I know a few people here have a background in art or photography and I'd love any feedback.

I'm trying to get that image on Flickr's Explore page, which is often rare for a 2A/gun related picture. Anyone with Flickr accounts who can comment/favorite the image, it would be greatly appreciated.

i like it

good contrast--less light on the head makes the person more 'you/me/anyone'
especially like the 'bear' arms. great visual pun
good choice of handgun--not a reflective stainless; so that while the gun is there-it is not shouting its presence
logo on shirt is prominent, as it should be.

very well done

Thanks, Claude!

Appreciate the feedback -- didn't even think of the "Bare Arms" hahahaha!

I have two other nice Gun-related pictures...

This one actually made Flickr's Explore page: http://flickr.com/photos/rhwiii/3210958547/

And this one which is a great shot of a lovely girl JUST at the moment the gun goes off -- you can see the ghost of recoil, the muzzle flash and the hot led being flung from the barrel.

EDIT: I post links to the pictures their Flickr pages, simply because the page views help me out with ranking. :)

Very nice job with the color and lighting, it reminds me of the visuals in 300 and Sin City. Nice work!

I *love* hearing stuff like this -- I always wonder what people think of pictures or what it might remind them of.

I like the live action pictures... 2nd and 3rd pics you posted.... they are very impressive....

Thanks, Tommy... I was actually trying to keep the focus off of the details of my face because 1) I'm ugly and 2) I wanted to focus more on the retrospection and the separation between the mind and the gun.

Nice stuff Wynder. What kind of equipment are you using?

Ugly or not I don't think the face should be more illuminated. I agree with your reasoning.

I use a Canon Rebel XSi with an extended battery grip. The lens was a 70-200mm f/2.8 USM with image stabilization. I have that sitting on a Manfrotto 055XPROB Tripod and a Manfrotto 488RC2 ball head.

I had a bare Canon 580EX II speedlight behind me for the rim light, and a 10", 8" and 6" reflector lights I got from Home Depot with 5500k fluorescent bulbs for main and spot lighting.

I put the lighting setup picture here: http://flickr.com/photos/rhwiii/3327451092

Nice job man, your portrait has a great feeling to it. Sort of an introspective quality I guess.

Thanks, Gamera!

Close to 700 hits in one day -- excellent, folks.. thanks so much for the help.
