Has anyone tried the new seven shot 3" 686's? I'm thinking about picking up a couple (I saw too many old Westerns with the double carry rigs) but I'm stuck between the traditional 4" and the 3 " models. Do they make a speed loader for them?

Yes they make a speed loader for the 7-shot 686's. I happen to have the 4" barrel. I CCW a 442, 642, Glock 26 & a Kimber Ultra. The 686 3" is a bit heavy to carry around CCW all day for me. I generally OC my 686 while camping & hiking and for HD/SD.

If you like the 3" 686 7 shot I'd get it as they are great guns.

I have a 686P ( the P suffix denotes the 7 shooters ) w/4 inch Bbl.

If you want a double rig... consider a 617 4 inch Bbl. .22 LR for your
weak hand - similiar balance and you could get one like mine with the
10 shot cylinder. Most friends of mine who handle it the first time are
and are not familiar are surprized to see the High capacity cyl.when they
open it up

My CCW carry is a Commander but I thought the double revolvers would be a fun set to put together. I have a thing for matching sets.

Just something to play with. The .22's are nice guns but I never could into the rimfires.

I goofed trying to add a smiley so I will continue.

The HKS 587A is the only speedloader I have found
for the 686P - the length of the .357 Mag. - one round
hangs up on extraction on the upper LH side of the grip.
I kept the rubber stock grip unaltered but the Guy Hogue
grip in Coco Bolo wood I'm waiting on will be modified for
no clrearance problems.

Another thing about the HKS 587A Speedloader finding
a speedloader belt holder in leather is a bit of a pain
because HKS only comes in black, De Santis makes a tan or
black but it is designed to put 3 cartridges on each
side of the belt, so, I don't think it would work with the 587A
I'm searching for something in Cordovan to match the belt and
holster. I'll post it when I find it.

FWIW - I also have a 625 5 inch .45 ACP / AR and the
shorter rounds have no clearance problems with the grip.
with the HKS 25M for Auto RIm or Full Moon clips for ACP.

Leatherwork is one of my hobbies so that isn't a problem. I did the holster, belt, sheath and cartridge case in the photo.

it's a sweet gun. I wouldnt mind the new 7shot ones, but I dont like the lock.

I have a 686 no dash CS-1 3" round butt. It can only hold 6, but it has the smoothest trigger. the new s&w is nothing like the old ones.
