3" barreled LCRx: anybody handled one?

Has anyone handled this newly announced Ruger with the 3" barrel and adjustable sights? I've had a hankering for such a small-frame .38 since handling the similarly equipped limited edition Chiefs Special at a gun show, but I wasn't about to pop the $1200 the collector wanted for it. My wife's favorite pistol is a Colt Agent with Pachmyer grips, because with her limited grip strength it's the one gun she can reliably handle. With light loads her accuracy with that crude-sighted snubby is amazing, I'd love to get her a similar sized gun with real potential, but the budget won't stretch too far, and the S&W is over the rainbow.
So: what about this Ruger?
 
I have one. It's the first lightweight 38 special I actually like, and I've tried them all, as far as I know.

At 10 yards I kept everything in the black on a bullseye target, I think the black is 8". No pain, no sting. I have to actively control the gun, it's not for untutored hands IMO, nothing out of the ordinary for a lightweight sidearm chambered in a fairly powerful defensive round.

The rear sight could be a snag problem if it's not taken into account, assuming it will be used as a carry gun.

Bikemut, do you think the stock standard tamer or even the boot grip for the standard lcr .38 would fit on your 3"? They haven't modified the grip frame have they?

I like the gin but not a fan of chubby rubber grips.
 
My sister in law has one. It is a really nice gun. She carries it daily. Made no complaints about the shock but, my brother said it was a little harsh. So, it's one of those deals that I don't think she'll shoot it for fun but, she will likely shoot it no problems when she has too.

Just sayin', I'm a Ruger revolver fan. I love mine. The best revolver on the market across the models and board. But, I just bought two Rossi 461 in the 357 mag. One for my daughter in law and one for me to conceal. I own a Rossi 462, 4 inch 357 I carry in my truck. So, my experience with the Rossi is extensive. They shoot very well, lock up great, timed perfectly, just a great deal in firearms. And are very affordable. I found the 461's for less than $300 to my door and they make a great carry gun with an inside the pants holster. Just another option that I'm certain you'll see the quality in.

I'm not suggesting it is an LCR. And I prefer American made. But, I work in the woods daily and needed a cheap beater. The Rossi fit the bill because it is a great gun, great shooter, and offers the best of both calibers in one. And is $150 cheaper. I really think you wouldn't be disappointed in one. I know I'm not in any I've handled and shot. God Bless
 
I know the 3 inch barrel makes a huge difference in accuracy and ballistics compared to a 2.25" barrel. I have an SP101 with a 3" barrel. My friend has an SP101 with a 2.25" barrel. Shooting my Sp101 is sweet and easy. His snubby is tough to handle with 357mag ammo, with 38 spl ammo it shoots well. It is weird how 3/4" can make such a huge difference. My 3" barrel SP101 weighs one once more than the 2.25" model.
 
Back in the day, when S&W J frame snubbies used to be in high demand (Model 60s in particular), a 3" barrel Model 36 was much easier to come by and priced a lot less than it's shorter barrel counterpart. I always liked the extra heft of the longer barrel as well as the way it balanced in my hand. Will have to take a long look at this new Ruger when the LGS gets then in.

It felt okay but wasn't anything to write home to Mom about,,,
I did like that the grips were longer than the snub-nose version though.

I tool my young friend down to look at handguns,,,
She took the concealed carry class last month,,,
Her preference is for J-frame size revolvers,,,
She wasn't overly impressed with it either.

I'm not saying a thing about the quality of the little gun,,,
These polymer revolvers seem to be doing nicely,,,
But in a revolver I want metal of some kind.

I will say this though,,,
I would rather have the 3" than the snubby.

I looked at one in a LGS last weekend. It's not pretty if you're a traditionalist, but there's a lot to like for a practical lightweight revolver. The grip is a significant improvement IMO; so much so that I ordered one for my standard LCR. The new white blade front sight was also a noticeable improvement.
 
I handled one and really liked it. I have one on layaway right now. The longer grip doesn't do much for me but Ruger says the old/standard grip will fit on it so I'll swap 'em out when I get the gun.
 
I got one of these for Christmas /birthday. I absolutely love it. Shoots great, carries great, the same awsome trigger as all the LCRs, and I don't mind the look of it to much either. Just got a Mitch Rosen holster from Shopruger.com that looks great and fits like a glove. I've put about 100 Win White box ammo through it and it is a fun plinker. My 14 year old son loves it as well.
 
I got to handle one during the holidays at a local shop. I liked it. Felt very good. I have shot LCR's in the past and really like the trigger. I think it would be a good little woods/kit/truck revolver.
 
For the first time, yesterday, at a gun show. Didn't know before I laid eyes on it that it existed.

Fairly handsome, to me at least. But, it felt like a toy, not much heavier than my daughter's cap gun. But, I've never before handled a revolver that wasn't "all-steel."
 
I don't really understand adjustable sights on a short barrel SD, CCW revolver. at SD distance you're likely never to use them and the snag factor is always present. i would prefer channel sight, myself. JMO

Yup. Had they made it with the same fixed/trench type sight as the snub model, and with the same grip (basically exactly the same gun as the standard LCRx but with 3" bbl) I'd be out there buying it yesterday. As it stands, if one comes along at a great price I'll look at it, but overall, I'm not pushed.
 
Handled one at SHOT and the new grips from Hogue are a great improvement. The gun is very lightweight and has a decent trigger pull on DA. Ruger has another winner.
 
The only reason I don't already have one, is I want it in .357. I'm hoping mightily this one does well enough to convince Ruger to do it in .357.
 
I put the snubby grip on mine (the grip it comes with is about an inch longer) and it'll fit in a 511 pants pocket. Light, good trigger, solid sights that these old eyes can see, what's not to like?

Yeah, it's a little 'Blade Runner'ish looking, but to me that's part of its charm. I like it. Even though I have a SP101 4.2", if it comes out in 357 I'll probably have to get one.

I have kicked it around about getting the grip for my wife's 38. Until I come up with the $ for the 3", it's an option that looks right.
 
I see this light platform as a great hiking, backpacking, and hunting companion.

The adjustable sights gives you the ability to dial it to the loads depending on the game you might take. Light loads... Heavy loads... Close range or far. Or set the sights to your defensive loads.

Give me a 357 Magnum version and I'm in!!
