Okay, I am 56, been hunting forever, mainly rifles and pistols but just acquired a new Defender marked for 3" shells, this may sound like a dumb question to most but can I shoot 2 3/4 shells out of it without chambering and ejection problems. I have shot shotguns many times but this is for when the SHTF. I plan on using 00 buck. is this gonna work when I need it?

Absolutely, you should have no problems whatsoever. I have an 870 that shoots 3in magnums and 2 3/4. Out of the thousands of rounds I have put through it, I think I have had 3 jams.

As lightweight in overall weight as a Defender is compared to many pumpguns, you will be a lot happier (and faster on followup shots) shooting 2.75" loads rather than 3" maggie numbs.

Many shotguns with 3" chambers are marked "For 3" or shorter shells."

Yep, 3", 2-3/4", 2-2/3", 2-9/16", 2-1/2" and even the 1-3/4" mini-shells are fine (though I've heard of people having issues sometimes with the mini shells feeding properly)

in the name of defence, it's much better to shoot 2 3/4, as they are less recoil, I've tried shooting homeade silluhoutte's and less recoil to pump the next rounds faster and be on the next target faster

(btw, my 2 3/4 00 buck MORE THAN destroyed these targets ;)

That's one of the major advantages of a pump gun over an auto; the power of the ammo doesn't affect the operation of the action.
