Looking at 16 inch carbine barrels.

I can get a HBar chrome lined from Windham complete (install kit, rings, tube, pins) for $235 I don't know who makes these barrels, or if they are done in house. http://www.windhamweaponry.com/shopexd.asp?id=128#axzz3NTAFClq0

Model One has chrome lined ER Shaw barrels in HBar or Lightweight, without any install parts for $220 (I have one of their barrels and I am very pleased with it.) (Unlined they are $185) http://www.model1sales.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=category.display&category_id=375

Last option, based purely on price is an Olympic Arms HBar at Midway for $185. http://www.midwayusa.com/product/23...y-matte-with-front-sight?cm_vc=ProductFinding

All barrels are 1/9 twist, with front sight. Any opinions on these three? Or if you have a recommendation for a CAR style barrel in the same price range please chime in.

I don't want an M-4 profile, this is going on an A1 upper.

You didn't mention what you are using it for. The 1:9 is usually a good choice. IMHO the 1:8 is a great choice if you can find it.

HBAR means the maker didn't have to lathe off as much of the blank. It does not mean it will be inherently more accurate than a lighter profile. The rifling has much more affect, then good ammo if not handloaded.

Barrel profile falls pretty far down the list of things that may affect accuracy. A guarantee from the maker would hold more weight. Which one states the accuracy they are willing to back up with free replacement?

What we would prefer, first, is more information regarding the use of the rifle. What you intend to do with it should be matched to the barrel first. That might result in it not even needing the heavier profile at all.

If precision shooting is the goal, then a warranty from the maker and his assertion the barrel was airgauged to check for imperfections and remove them from his inventory would be the better one to choose from. And if those features and checks are followed thru, the make barrel you actually buy may even surprise you.

What should follow, tho, is that the price will be higher. A guarantee of accuracy is financed by the retail price. These guys aren't going broke and handing out barrels for free.

That PSA 18" with the Wylde chamber is a nice barrel. I have a 16" one from them that shoots awesome. And it's in stainless with a rifle gas system.

I prefer mid-length gas in general, and all of the carbine barrels I have had shoot about the same. This barrel is a great buy: 16" mid-length gas with SOCOM profile for $80. I've been thinking about ordering one and replacing the M-forgery barrel on a truck gun I have.

I already have a Colt 6920 and a 16 heavy varmint barreled rifle I use in competition.

I am wanting to build a lightweight carbine with fixed A1 sights, The heavier barrels handle heat better. I might use this in the annual AR vs AK match. I even toyed with the idea of the 11.5/5.5 barrel for the XM-177 look http://www.model1sales.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=category.display&category_id=385 but I think I'd rather have the longer barrel for reliability. This is going to be a dedicated HD/short range carbine.

I will probably run this on a New Frontier plastic lower to start (as I already have one.)

Also BCM sale right now all uppers get a free BCG and their comp. Might be worth it just to buy a complete upper.
