Hi folks!

I am another AR newbie, but not a newbie to battle rifles.

I have a stripped receiver already. Lower parts kit on order, with a two stage trigger.

What I am looking for is a M4gery upper, with a rail, 16" barrel.

The 2 I am looking at are:

This Stag is a decent price, chrome barrel, with 1:9 twist. Not sure of the quality of the rail, or how ready it is to mount a scope.

The other choice is a bit more confusing:

If I upgrade (through the order form) to the 'quad-rail, free float $120 extra) and to a chrome rather than chrome-moly barrel, am I getting roughly the same thing? Not interested in the carry handle, and just $10 more for the dominator mount. I can also upgrade to a 1:8 twist Wylde barrel. What will this do for me other than the ability to possible shoot slightly larger loads?

The Stag seems a better bargain, but no customization options. RRA has more options, but at a premium, and I'm not sure they are anything I need.

Sorry for my ignorance, but I'm new to EBR's.

I have an M1A, which I love, but is far more straightforward. This AR will be the first gun I customize and put together on my own.

Thanks Folks!

if you want a chrome lined barrel i would not fool with the freefloat handgaurd/ chrome barreles tend to be less accurate than chrome moly but the the chrome lined barrels do last longer so......its just up 2 u
as far as STAG or RRA i would not turn around for the difference they both make good stuff

My Stag Upper

I have had no problems with mine. I swapped out the FSB for A YHM folding. My only gripe with Stag is their staking of the gas key on the carrier. An easy 30 second fix with a punch.

Stag is chrome lined from the factory without an upgrade. On the other hand I have never been disappointed with RRA.

Given this time and age where dollars are short, make sure of what you want before ordering. Dealers are swamped right now. If there is any confusion, check, then double check to assure that you are ordering the product you want.

yenchisks,

thanks for the reply, but what use is it? You bought one, so you recite the name?

What do they have that I'm missing? What is their price range? (similar)?

What part number, or model should I check out that is suitable for what I am looking for?

I am looking for suggestions, and appreciate any I can get.

Not all that interested in one word advertisements of what you bought. Not a thread about who loves their EBR the most. I am looking for some light in the fog that is the home-build AR market for a non-tactical type of guy.

00buck i guess i dont see your reasoning. First i have ars with chrome lined barrels that shoot just as well as the ones i have with chrome moly and stainless barrels. Free floating a forearm usually helps in accuarcy but again ive got guns that are not that will drive nails. But if a guy has a gun with a chorme lined barrel and wants it to shoot its best why shouldnt he free float it. Ive got one colt with a free floated chrome lined barrel that will shoot 3/4s of an inch all day long. thats as good as most .223 out of the box heavy barreled bolt guns will do. Ive also got a couple with chrome moly barrels that wont shoot under an inch.

both are of good qual and you will not have to worry about either one. a buddy of mine ordered the rock river and was supposed to take 4 wks, it ended up taking 4 months to get the upper that he wanted. Nothing special, just 18 in heavy ss barrel and ff tube on it. Shoots good though. Just a suggestion, if you get a chance, look at the new Larue stuff. Without a doubt some of the best components you can buy and they are not much more that what you are looking at. Best of all in Mark Larue's own words, "if you don't like it for anything at all, as long as I am alive, send it back". You cannot beat Larue's warranty or quality on his stuff.

Of the 2 I'd go Stag. You can save a little bit by ordering from ar15sales.com. They put the order straight to Stag & you get free shipping. I just got a 3H upper from them after a 2 month wait. It looks fine & all is together with a CTR stock. I will get around to shooting it soon.
