This is my first post! Just starting to put together a collection for TEOTWAWKI and I'd appreciate you opinions.

Would it be better to have 3 of the same rifle (AR-15?) with 3,000 rounds of ammo, or 3 different rifles (AR, AK-47, .308 Win) with 1,000 rounds of each type of ammo?

I'm trying to think of availability of ammo, spare parts, familiarity, range, etc., etc.

There would be 3 shooting adults in a worst-case scenario.

I'm really interested in and appreciate your comments. Thanks.

Not sure how long this thread will last, as TEOTWAWKI discussions are generally frowned on.

Personally, I think you'd be better off with a consistent armory. Chose one caliber and one gun for each roll (one shotgun, one combat rifle, one combat pistol) and everyone in your group use the same guns. This will work better with self-sufficency.

For that intended purpose, I would pick that platform and caliber most likely to fulfill your needs and have multiples of it, along with appropriate spare parts, magazines and ammo. If there is a need not met (like longer range precision shooting) then get a tool to meet that need.

Yeah we don't do apocalypse scenarios. Before I close this I will say it makes far more sense for everyone to use the same thing, as that way they don't have to re-learn a system of doing things every time they pick up a team mate's weapon.

3 of the same of anything beats a mix of three calibers and platforms.
